This is a good idea and all, but it sounds like you're willing to stake RV's reputation of being the best known fansite for one of being an extremely small one that happens not to flame anyone. I agreee, it's one heck of a lot worse than it used to be. But sruely there are other methods. Updating the chat filter, for example. "carp"(letters switched around a tiny bit) is still valid. Most things said when flaming are still valid. Personnally, I'd ask Jagex how they did their filter, and implement that here on RV. Also, this might not work at all. Human psychology dictates that there WILL be some major disagreement among even 2 sometimes(if you don't believe me, take one look at the divorce rate.) These feelings of hate are VERY rarely ever treated/realigned. I did it, but it took me 2 years of hardly ever seeing that person. Even then, I still remember what he did; I just don't have ill-will towards him anymore. In a case of even 500, there's gonna be some seed of hate somewhere. In the case of 45,000... well, we already know that one. I thnk the reeal way to approach this is by putting in the terms of agreement for ALL new members that flaming shall be kept to a minimum. I say new members because they are our primary problem. I've seen 200-post people, already they have 1 or 2 warnings. I see 1.5k post people, they hardly have EVER gotten a warning. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see RV back the way it was when I first joined, at the very least,(October 30, 2003), but it'd be still nicer if we could do it without banning oursleves into obliveon. It would be the supreme achievement, however, if we could make ourselves the #1 RS fansite FIRST, then cracking down. Not only does this permanently establish RV's reputation, this is good PR for when we cracxk down; most will say that this is good for those at the top to do.

Anyway, I'm done with my little rant. But please, consider what I've said.

It was a very nice speech, Hiker. I can truly appreciate and respect the ideals that Runevillage should stand for. I am still somewhat of a stranger here to a point but I have made this my home for a time and agree fully with you.

I have been online longer then many here and I have also been an admin and moderator for several forums over the years. But thru all of those, Runevillage has still been one of the nicest ones I have visited. I admit, I don't post as often as most because I tend toward not speaking unless I really have something to say. I would like to think that your ideals will not go unnoticed but it has been my experience that, usually, there must be some casualitys of those who refuse to follow the guidelines.

It has been said that Runevillage is becoming alot like other RS-forums and this simply isn't true, in my opinion. Yes, it has changed a bit and yes there does need to be some change in the way people post, but RV is still one of the nicest over-all and I think, because the moderators are some of the best I have seen, with minimal effort, we can all, both moderator and posters, change things here for the better.

One thing also is that, from what I have seen, may help things would be to bring more adults to the forums. I have nothing against those younger than myself or those in their teens who make up the majority of the posters here but having an influx of adults that play RS who can look at RV as a haven, would also help the general ambience of the forum.

then i comletely agree with him. Runevillage has become the target of many a hackers/scammers/adult image posters, and something IMO needs to be done, wether it be banning our way to 500 people as hiker mentioned, or us together turning this trip to hell around, and making it the best return trip again.

AMEN. Excellent speech Hiker. I'm glad something is being done about all the hate and flaming that has been going on here. I remember back to when there were less than 5,000 members, and the village was much more easy to manage. Now with nearly 50,000 members, the Village is a lot harder to manage, and I guess that's part of the reason that you selected the new mods. Let's bring this place back to order everyone.

you are absolutley right that village changed, that there are more flamers and more people getting banned then ever before, the village was a happy place, even though i was here for 4 months, i used to visit this site for like a year, just never signed up, and i looked at the forums and i noticed that it wasnt perfect, but it was at least a bit less flaming then today, but now the place is filled with flammers, and mostly its happening because people become to upsest with the game and start judging everyone, when they should be the bad opinions to themselves, well thanks for who ever read this and once again great post hiker....

i agree in evry respect. the idea of a vilage where evryone is given respect is exactly the thing i wanted when i came here. i found it most of the time but there has always been people who flame and cuss and disrespect evryone and it has been geting worse.just as long as you do evrything you say you will(and i have no doubt you will) then maby we can reform the vilage into a haven again.

First of all: Very good speech Hiker, finally somebody says it.

Some people here (nicely described as fools) are wanting to flame, hurt, tease,... innocent people here, just to get rid of their frustration. This has to come to an end indeed. I'm going to keep it short, since you already said it all. So, let's hope that this can change the tide.

I'll do whatever I can to help.
