Sah is filthy scum who cannot resist coming back to try and stir some more trouble, all because he got banned justly several times.

I highly doubt Hiker took his own life, the crimes he committed were a long time ago, so why take his own life now? In his latter years he was suffering from severe health issues so I suspect it was one of them that ultimately ended him.

Outting Hiker was nothing to do with doing the world a favour, it didn't change what had happened, it didn't change who Hiker was, all it did was put the last nail in the coffin that was Rv and caused a huge amount of upset and drama, but that was the plan all along wasn't it? No-one here had been affected by hikers past or it would have been mentioned by now or dug up in your efforts to destroy him, so you didn't save anyone.

Crawl back from whence you came and stay there.

Personally, I would save the title "filthy scum" for people who mess with kids. That's just me, though.

Scott said at one point he was using the excuse that he was saving the world. Or something to that effect. You may hate him but he admitted he did it for revenge, no matter how it may make people hate him, he's told the truth.

I feel sad for you. Just because no one here was "affected" (extremely loose term for what he did) by what he did and no one here was "saved", defending him is okay? Yes he died, people die, it's sad but I cannot understand your strong reaction. You weren't his family, you never met him and for someone who supposedly has or still does work with children, your reaction is baffling. Perhaps take a moment to think of the people who were his victims. What was done to them will affect them for the rest of their lives, no matter how long ago the crime was committed. And that is what matters.

I think some people forget in death what truly mattered about a person and the people they may have hurt in their lifetime. I however don't, and won't defend or feel sad for a man who did disgusting things, defended them, then died alone because of it. He knew what he was doing was wrong and that sadly is why his life was so miserable. No one is to blame for that except him.

Clearly we just need more women on the board, those were the two most exciting posts we've had in a long time.

I feel like if you hammered the message that he's not wanted here into his thick skull, literally, he still would come back.

I don't think his bone density is greater than anyone else's. Why would you hammer it into his head? He wouldn't see it. Best off just sending him a note. ^_^;

What he did was pretty abhorrent and indefensible. While the justice system is designed around doing your time and then (hopefully) moving on with your life, there are crimes most people have a hard time forgiving. To then found a website for a game whose target audience is children and teenagers is questionable. Even if he was totally sincere in his motivations, it would be ill-advised on the off chance his past came out, as it did. It almost makes me wonder what he was doing on Runescape in the first place.

That said I had good times on Runevillage and I'm thankful for that, even if I never really spoke to him, he created the place that introduced me to some awesome people. Also the thought of someone dying alone and friendless is depressing.

Also Sarah's beef with Scott and Scott's continued smugness about this whole thing is a little embarrassing after all these years :o

Edit - also Hi :-s

Oh wow. This thread completely slipped under my radar :o

Thanks for notifying us of this Sah. I'm not sure I ever mentioned this, but I have no hard feelings for what happened. It's Jagex that went trigger-happy in "the incident" and I've already told them that in person at Runefest. It's seldom to learn about these things on the internet unless you're connected with the person on Facebook or so (and even then...). It's a shame I didn't keep in touch with him through mail as I'm sure he would've appreciated that.

I've never met hiker in person, but during all contact I've had with him he has come over as honest and fair to me - which is all that I can ask of people. I don't need to know his exact history, nor do I need to know what happened to him exactly as that is not my right. I will however remember the trust he put in me and I'll remember how he encouraged me to learn to program stuff - which culminated in me having my current job. While he is most certainly no saint, he had an impact on most people's lives here and provided quite a safe haven for people (though I'm certain the moderation team has a huge claim in that achievement as well).

Happy trails, hiker. Happy trails.

My first contact with Hiker was when I was in my teens, the man never used me or anyone that I know of on the forum. There still has not been 1 person to come forward with negative views about the man. I always looked up to Hiker online.

We all have skeletons that tend to fall out of our closets that range in severity. I know I have dabbled in some bad stuff. I will always remember Hiker as the old man who would talk to me for hours about hiking in the United States, about how small the town I lived in really was in the 80s when he hiked near it or how I would one day would succeed at life.

No one should be judged based on 15 years ago, but what Hiker did was wrong and I guess in our society it is unforgivable. I just wish him the best in his afterlife and hope maybe his ghost can haunt Jagex for being such a bad company lately.

Yeah, outting a child molester doesn't change the fact that he was a child molester.

In 2005, when police came to arrest Watson for failing to register as a sex offender, they again found Waller at Watson’s home. He was typing on Watson’s computer keyboard.

But this one has always jumped out at me-

That basically reads that he never saw (even at the time of that writing, after he was outed) it as morally wrong.

One less child molester around, now we can finally sweep him up and throw him away.

I'm glad he's dead. Now he can't rape my kids someday. Sympathy factor 0.

We've always had to "keep it pg" here on RV. It's just now that everyone knows why. Let's just drop the pretense and assumption RV has to be kept child safe.

Oh please, that's so lame. Apparently you've never tried to keep thousands of teenagers in line.

I let a lot of things slide these days, but I tend to draw the line at loose genocide, and it was bothering people.

No, I've never had the free time to spare doing a "job" for free on the internet.... Also, thousands? Really? Was there ever a day where there was 1000+ unique posters on RV... ever?

Secondly: WHat nation or ethnic group consists of mainly child molesters?

It's no secret I basically despise pretty much every mod here and Hiker, why you people all feel the need to defend him posthumously must be to consult your own feel goods of most likely saying/thinking the same things that you're now acting offender over.

Neither of those were ever allowed. We did have a bunch of moderators that vastly overstepped their boundaries but almost all the ones that did what you mention were demodded.

Which is bound to happen, I guess, on a site run purely by volunteers, but still not preferred.

Excerpt from a PM in my inbox from years ago.

hiker wrote:

8)

Sure they got "de-modded" Jaron. 8-[

RuneVillage was more or less a club, and the A-listers were the mods. People suck(ed?) up to them and get buddy-buddy and anyone who didn't kow-tow to their whims was met with whatever "power" a mod could exert over them. That's my memory of how moderation worked here.
Yeah, you're probably right to an extent. That's a pretty dumb PM on hiker's part, honestly. I do seem to recall something like that was in the rules though, but as a clause for stopping rule-breakers rather than to be used for ultimate power. Every time someone got kicked for font colors I raised a shitstorm and eventually all of the Chat admins were on my side on the matter, haha.

(Some did get demodded; I can think of two examples immediately of those who did what you mentioned (but I'm not gonna name names, sorry.) I can also think of at least one that wasn't though so yeah it went both ways.)

The laws of RV never have and never will change. The vast majority of people who come to this website anymore must surely be 20+ by now, and you're telling me it was "bothering" people to the point you had to edit a post?

You see more detestable things on the evening news than that these days. Hiker himself was more detestable than that comment you edited.

I swear you people function at such a low level mentally that concepts and thoughts are just mere word association most of the time.

Why is mentioning a gas chamber any worse than mentioning the raping of children? That's the position you've taken, have fun proving it.

Here's how the thought process went. gas chamber --> ww2 --> holocaust ---> genocide. A perfectly natural thought linkage for someone who knows next to nothing about any of those topics.
Genocide =\ gas chamber. Disassociate this connection.

Genocide means, to take an entire body of peoples, their culture, their history, their religion, their land and every single inhabitant, and destroy and erase them so badly people In the future will never know they even existed.

Are you aware that criminals in the United states were put to death by gas chamber for years? I'm guessing not.

Why not just man up and admit you edited my
post to try to assert authority that you're shpeior
To my own opinions because you are a mod and I am not? That's all it was really about. It's like telling a dog it can't have people food because you're a person and you're better than the dog, thus the dog needs to be told off and reminded of its place any time it starts getting too close to being on your level. The old "rune village is pg" excuse has been used here by mods to silence people they disagree with for as far back as I can remember, and when you edited my post it actually made me laugh. So at least you can say you amused me, if you can say anything for the sorry state of your reckless need to satisfy your base censorious instincts.
