Vertigo (first viewing)

Pretty good direction, and acting, but I was never really held in suspense and the ending was a little...well, let's just say that when someone is scared they don't step back THAT much. For me that was a bit of stretch but it was otherwise pretty good. But not as good as...

Rear Window (first viewing)

Great movie. My favorite Hitchcock film for the moment but I'm definitely not through enough of his movies to make a full judgement. It is a really great movie though, so anyone who likes suspense and doesn't mind movies from the 50's should enjoy this one.

Psycho is next on my list, but has anyone got a few other Hitchcock films to suggest? I've also seen The Birds, Marnie, and North By Northwest.

All of his films are interesting in one way or another, so watch any that you can find. :P

Rope is about two men who kill somebody as an philosophical experiment and then have a dinner party over his dead body. It's also notable for taking place exclusively in the one small flat. Hitchcock utililised small sets on a number of other occasions: Lifeboat and Dial M For Murder (which like Rear Window also has Grace Kelly) are two examples.

Shadow of a Doubt is his personal favourite movie; a gripping tale of a fatherly uncle who isn't what he seems to be. Hitchcock won his only Oscar for Rebecca, a gothic style thriller, which is stylistically similar to Suspicion. Strangers on a Train was his return to form after a couple of less successful pictures in the late 40s - Robert Walker is one of the most convincing Hitchcockian villains.

The quintessential Hitchcockian hero is Cary Grant, and I'd recommend all four of the film collaborations he has with Hitchcock (NbNW, Suspicion, the wonderful Notorious with Ingrid Bergman and To Catch a Thief). Finally, all of the above films are from Hitchcock's American period (1940 onward). He made a number of excellent British films before that, the standouts being The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes.

Basically, essential Hitch (chronologically):

The 39 Steps
The Lady Vanishes
Rebecca
Shadow of a Doubt
Notorious
Strangers on a Train
Rear Window
Vertigo
North By Northwest
Psycho
The Birds

That's the rough essential canon I'd see before delving deeper.

Greenstreet.

FRODO BECOMES A FOOTBALL HOOLIGAN. Pretty good film, despite the fact football sucks.

Would've been better if Jack Bauer had replaced Dennis Quaid's secret service guy. Seriously, I was expecting him to pop up somewhere - he never did.

Watched Bangkok Dangerous, definitely loved the action. But the boat scene seemed so fake..Nevertheless, good movie, id recommend watching if you like Hitman movies.

If Brad Pitt wasn't funny in this movie, I'd kinda regret seeing it.

I thought it was pretty funny. It was my first Coen Brothers movie and I found the experience to be quite delightful. But I guess it all depends on taste.

Coen Brothers made No Country for Old Men, didn't they? From what I hear, Burn After Reading sounds way different.

But they also made The Big Lebowski, one of the funniest movies EVER (They also made The Ladykillers and Intolerable Cruelty, but just ignore those). O Brother, Where Art Thou? is also pretty funny, and Fargo is also a hilarious dark comedy/thriller.

American Psycho.

I think I'll go with 8/10 for Christian Bale's performance. Other than that and the Huey Lewis axe-killing scene, there wasn't really anything in the movie that made it good or made it live up to the stuff I'd heard about. It's probably the most quote-able movie ever made, though.

That being said, the part where he runs naked after the prostitute with a chainsaw was funny.

That WOULD have been awesome.
I like how the movie constantly left you hanging somewhere, wondering what was going on.

Well, I just watched No Country For Old Men. Quite gory to some extent. It had an interesting plot but it was hard to understand and follow at first. Not one of my top favorites, nonetheless.

That Sir, is an awesome movie. I buy Huggies just because of that scene at the convenient store.

The last film I watched was True Lies. It's one of my favorites and I think Tom Arnold makes the movie. One problem though, the more I see it, the more I feel like I am becoming Jamie Lee Curtis's character. :-s

Haha ya. I think thats one of the funniest scenes in any movie. We just watched it yesterday (slowly introducing Jenny to the Coen Brothers catalog). I love how it is such a goofy movie, but also very poignant.

Recently, I've watched Babylon which I think was a pretty damn good movie. I've also enjoyed watching the movie Gunslinger in theatres. (Seeing the images below caught my attention). And ... The Forbidden Kingdom. Which I've seen in theatres and on DVD.
