I think the Barrows is a great place to move your Mage up. Look at what you have done, 15 levels in 660 or so runs, I moved 13 Levels in 600 runs.

I would recomend to any mid-high level player to utilize the Barrows to move Mage. I find magic boring myself so only use it when I have to, this is a time when you have to, and it's never,...... ever,........ ever boring.

The best part is it more than pays for itself

Just look at the equipment alone.


If you look at the drops I have got from the Barrows you see that I have:

Full Karil’s (Plus 10,620 Bolt Racks)
Full Torag’s
Full Ahrim’s
Full Dharoak’s (I do not have the great axe, it was my 5th drop and I sold it off. At the time I started I only planed on getting Full Guthan’s and Full Verac’s. It is listed here because I have got it as a drop. And I am sure I will get it again someday)
Full Verac’s (I have never got a Brassard as a drop but I was selling one of the extra Guthan Platebody’s I have and another player wanted to trade a Brassard for the Platebody. A deal I could not refuse!!!)

The only Guthan Item I have is the platebody. I am looking forward to my next 400 runs just to see if I can complete my collection. I actually only need 4 pieces to have all complete sets, and while I have the money to buy them, it’s a lot more satisfying to win them through the game.

So what I still need is to replace Dharoak’s Great Axe, and to get Guth Helm, Legs and Spear and I will have 6 complete sets. (plus others I haven’t sold any of my drops lately at all, still have most of the drops after run 200 plus the D mediums)

And of course, this does not cover the equipment I have picked up from fellow players that have died in the Barrows that I have had the good luck to come across. That could be a whole seperate post.

When i started barrows, i did like 50 runs of 15 kills and i got pretty much no barrow item.
One day i just wanted to check it out so i went for a barrows trip. I got an ahrims top

It got me started to do several trips more... at the end of the day with 20 trips i get a torags pl8 !

Next day was the best of all, ever, i have done like 30 trips and i got these barrows items:

- Guthans spear
- Karils X-Bow
- Guthans spear.

The next day with 20 trips .. i was dead after the first 10, literally and my membership was runnning low so i dropped the trips.


It's a great place, requires a huge amount of luck. Thats definitly the best way 2 train magic !

Very nice stats. I was planning on doing something similar, but that is really nice. You've reinspired me to go back to the barrows .

I have 85 slayer, and I used cannon... so if you want to put some of your money to use- use some c balls . I got an average of 16.44 slayer xp and 25.36 ranged xp per c ball based on 181,557 c balls used if that helps. Just go to vanakka, skip or don't use cannon on bad tasks. See you at abyssals!

Was looking at the mage xp you got... magic dart = 30 xp a cast + 2 xp per damage.

Each trip of only maging brothers you gain 1212 xp from damage, and the additional 30 xp a cast. Since you used 32,974 deaths, that means you got 989,220 xp from spell and an additional 727,200 xp for damage. So, total of 1,716,420 mage xp. Your average damage per hit was 11.

You also gained 484,788 hp xp from magic spells.

Just some stats I was looking for when I first read

I love you. Before this, I only killed the six ghosts and got nothing, and then I read this, saying 14 kills is the best way for barrows items. Today, I did one trip, got Verac's brassard, and right after that, Ahrim's robetop . Two barrows items in a row. You, sir, are awesome.

Good breakdown of runes, but I use death spells and hardly ever get them from chest. I get bolt racks, chaos, minds and bloods, never deaths or barrows items. However I saw that for deaths, kill blood worms, kill 21-24 odd of them, got none. My luck really is bad.

lilmanster, thats some nice breakdowns on both the range and the magic xp. While I knew the levels, I had not converted that over to actual experiance points. Nice to look at a number like that.

As for C-balls I rarely use them. I just don't really enjoy using a cannon. While I know it would make my slayer tasks much faster, I will give up speed for the pleasure of the play.

As for seeing you at Abyssals, i'm getting closer. Killing Hellhounds this morning. 16k till level 84.

dino slayer2, to answer your question, yes I wore the ROW on all trips so I can't say if it did or did not help because I don't have any bases of comparison. That is something I could do in the future though, I don't know if it would give a definative answer of not but it's something I might try. I will keep this in mind as I set up some runs past 1000.

Now I am glad you brought this up because it reminds me of something I had left out. On runs 201-300 where I only killed the brothers, and subsequently only got 2 drops, I did NOT bring my Book of Balance. For all the other runs I did. That is something else I will have to revisit again as well.

ikill2live, like I said I have never had to buy Death Runes since I started, but Magic Dart only uses 1 death rune per cast so my demand is much lower than yours. Magic Dart is slower than death spells, but it cost a whole lot less as well, which is why I prefer it. I can only suggest that you make 10-15 runs, killing the brothers and then 5-8 Crypt spiders (not giants though) or bloodworms. And let me know if you decide to do this, I would really like to know if you get the same kind of results that I did.

Blaze1200, if you mean between the drops and the other things I was tracking the answer is no. I have looked at the data but I don't see any pattern to the drops at all. However, maybe if someone with a better mind than mine can make more sense out of the data than me. To me, it seems that the items you get are random, I see no connection between any of the observed data and whats in the chest.

Thanks for the response, but death spells use the same amount of death runes as magic dart per cast. It could just be that it's weaker (it is, from seeing other people using it) and I use more, or you take more with you and can get a second run in.

Could be, I normally take 800 deaths and 2400 minds. Then whenever I go to the bank, I depost any runes above those amounts.

See how much I use mage? I bet that from about level 65 and up the only mage spells I have used (other than as required for quests) are Telly, High-Alch and Magic Dart. Ah and Wind Strike (I use that to bring a creature to me while using a Halley)

very good post and i just spent 20 minutes reading everything and i know i didnt waste any time. if i ever get that high of level i will have to work on the barrows.

P.S.im so jealous u get 81 magic having fun and ive been trying to get 80 magic with high alch for 2-3 months now lol

hey i think this is great its proved many of my theroies i do barrows prabubly 200 runs a month its what i do when im bored been doing it since it came out prabubly gotten about 80-100 brother drops in my career i get 20 kc every time i kill gian crypt spiders or bloodworms and i realy go for the blood runes cuz i could use em but i averege 1 item every 11-12 trips the worst series of trips i ever got was 27 trips without a drop but i still made over 2mil from rune profet=)


i acualy use super restore not p pots cuz there cheaper and they do the same thing

Flying Sno, from a magic standpoint, you can handle the Barrows, what’s your other stats?

The key to successful Barrow trips is not to panic. Run where you need to yes, but always understand your next move. It's when you lose track of what your doing, that’s when you die in the Barrows. When you open the door and aren’t ready to fight one of the brothers, that’s when you die. It's the little things, I have seen guys enter the crypt and click on the sarcophagus before they turn prayer on, only to discover they forgot to drink a P-Pot before they came down. Instant death pretty much.

As long as you understand what your next step or move is and your ready for the consequences, the Barrow is not that hard.

Where are you buying your Super Restores cheaper than Prayer pots? Tell me, inquiring minds want to know.

Actually, I was watching Alpr's video on the Fight Cave last week and saw thats what he was using and wondered why. That’s when I did research and found the Super Restore actually restores more Prayer than Prayer Pots. Since then I have been planting Snapdragon seeds instead of Rannar Seeds. When I have a few hundred I'll make those pots instead from now on. But thanks for pointing that out. Thats one of those vauable tips that both gives a better return and costs less and that Every Player should be aware of!! Five Stars to you for mentioning it.

Bottom line, it's all random. Don't stop going, because logic says that you will get your drops, and I think you have read enough other members here say the same thing, but there is no real rhyme or reason, just kill the brothers and cross your fingers.
