Even though I live in Australia the same thing can happen around here.

Recently I think we had 3? stabbings in the city. The police do try to stop and catch all the criminals, put in reality it can never be stopped.

In the newspapers, most of the violence like stabbings, beating and even shootings are most likely provoked through drugs or Alchohol and are the main reasons that that this type of violence actually happens.

45 David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give all of you into our hands."
48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. 49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.

some police carry guns here but i agree not many... and that "stick" really hurts when you get hit in the back of the leg, according to a friend of mine anyway, but would cops carrieng guns stop the problem i doubt it...

The gun problem here isn't huge, because unlike America we have sense. However the knife problem.. Well yeah. Anyone carrying around weapons should be able to be given a life sentence. Simple.

i think that is possibly the only way of stopping it if that would work even but isnt it a bit harsh? consider the fact that some poor kids that get bullied carry them to feel more secure and for self protection, i know its no excuse but its a harsh thing to put someone in jail for life for.

Absolutely ridiculous idea, in my opinion.

I, too, think this is a ridiculous idea, Some people have weapons for self-defense, there's no harm in that?

I carry a knife around with me most of the time. I know how to use it, I've never pulled it on someone, either willingly or forced to to defend myself, thankfully. Does that mean I should be forced to go to jail for just walking around with it?

If you restrict guns being sold to civilians, then only criminals who have already obtained guns will have them. In short, you have a defenseless public. The public cares about the laws, but the criminals don't, which is why they are criminals in the first place. The criminals, knowing that the public is defenseless, will take advantage of this fact.

knives are a bit tricky. Plenty of people carry them for assorted purposes, and I'm in constant need of one it seems. Knives aren't weapons they're tools. There are just a lot of people that use them as such.

Some states in the US only permit people to carry certain knives and certain lengths of knives. I don't think it has much impact on crime, though.
