I smoke, I would love to quit, but i love to smoke and at the moment I love smoking more. It will be the death of me most likely, shame really.

Indeed, quitting anything can be hard, it reminds me of this quote:

Quote:
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

But I'm sure you already know it, right? :D

I have never smoked, never will, Smokers have horrible breath, smelly clothes and wll all turn into this one day, yes even the males:

Image

Seriously though, don't care if anyone smokes, as long as they don't do it around me :D

I also hate it when I hear smokers complaining about the price of cigs and/or the new laws being passed against smoking inside public areas...

That's like saying you hate hearing people complain about the price of gas. I mean you're free to hate the complaining but they have a perfect right to complain about it all the same. :-s

Landerpurex wrote:

Now here's a debate forum topic waiting to happen. Designated smoking areas, that's perfectly fine. Completely prohibiting it? That's a touchy subject.

I think Yousif's previous post says it well;

Quote:
Generally my rule is... No smoking near children... EVER. . . But it literally makes me furious when a non-smoking couple come to sit outside near me and friends, and complain about our smoking. .

Most smokers try to be conscious of the people around them because it's a matter of common decency and respect. It tends to be the non-smokers who flip out on smokers for the simple reason that they're smoking, even if they've gone out of their way to be away from people when they light up. There should definitely be no smoking laws for places such as schools, but when it starts branching to anywhere and everywhere, it gets to be a little ridiculous. At what point does America stop being the land of the free?

Same here.
I feel sorry for smokers really, they're just slowly killing themselves.

Thank-you everyone for their positive feedback, and not making this a massive all on brawl about the subject. . .

Like everyone has reinforced, each to there own. . . Personally guys, my story is difficult to explain, My childhood wasn't easy, and family has it's rough points. . . It's my addiction, and each to there own. .

Some games, some hookah, some cars. . . Me? Smoking. . . I know its killing me, and I will quit when the day comes that I can say to myself I've had enough, but that's when the days comes. . . If it comes.

I'm 21 now, been smoking since I was roughly 14. . . Pulled in by peer-pressure, stayed for sheer enjoyment. . .Held down by addiction, simple as that. I know the mistake I made, that's why I don't hesitate to tell a teenager smoking, and tell them its a waste and that they are simply an idiot like the rest of us.

The general conclusion is that people seem to think that smokers don't know what they are doing to themselves, or that they unaware of the situation they are in. . . We are aware, and we know what we are doing to ourselves, only thing is we don't care. . . We chose this life.

On a similar subject, what do people think of this hall banning smoking from outdoor areas? I understand certain areas (near schools, hospitals, parks for children).

I had an occasion where some girls at our local restaurant told me to stop smoking in the outdoor smoking area cause it annoyed her. . . So being mature and sensible, I blew the smoke her way and told her to go inside. Another situation was at university where a group of people told me to stop smoking cause they hate smokers. . . Keep in mind I was outside away from most people, minding my own business, and they still hate the audacity to tell me to go to the parking lot to smoke. . .

If not, then no.

Smoked for the first time today. Smoked a corn cob pipe and a few puffs of a buddy's cigar. Can't say I see the draw of the pipe, but the cigar was okay. Wouldn't make a habit of either though.

I agree: it's pretty dick to bother a smoker who is clearly minding their own business and away from others. I would confront a smoker had they been irresponsible or rude with their habit around others, but not at all when they're with themselves.

Thought I'd give people an update, I've actually decided to try and quit, even though my situtation isn't the best right now, I just feel like I should. . .

Thing is I'm not trying to cold turkey it and go suicidal, so I'm trying to de-program myself by keeping my hand occupied, so that means guitar is back out again, and I've always gotten myself some Chi balls, and a ton of toothpicks. . Fun.

Keep a single pack of cigarettes on hand. Except empty the box and instead fill it with said toothpicks, or with something like sticks of gum. ;D

Might try that. Bought the ones that are sealed away in plastic, generally have 10-15 in car, and 2 on me most times to keep me distracted, It's a beginning.

As I have a right to complain about their complaining. :?:

Just as someone complaining about gas prices can walk, bike, skateboard, or whatever to get to where they're going (or at least look into a more fuel-efficient vehicle), smokers can take it upon themselves to quit, cut down, change brands, or hand roll rather than simply complain. It's a responsibility thing, like a fat person complaining about their weight when they never exercise or make an effort to eat healthy.

Just the other day I heard one girl pitching a fit about the price of Newports and Marlboros...those are expensive, name-brand cigarettes. Get with a cheaper brand or hand roll. Or....quit smoking. :?:

But you'd then be selling a car to buy an even more expensive car so the savings would take many years to come into effect, by which time you will have realised that you want a new car.

Not necessarily. I sold my chevy blazer for 800 bucks and managed to pick up a grand prix for 600.

EDIT: But them's ghetto-figures.

No matter how you look at it guys, someone will complain and every has a right too just as Lander said.

Lander, also to state, its very hard to change from different packets of cigarettes, every brand has their own method of making their cigarettes, and after your body has adapted to it, its hard, and actually can make you sick.

I started on Winfield, and when I changed over to Dunhill, I was literally feeling sick for a week.

Btw Lander, what engines are on those cars? aren't they V6 - V8 ? Wouldn't that kill you on petrol ?

Never smoked (Well, unless you count shisha twice as smoking - which it sort of is I guess).

It really is a nasty habit, I don't even smoke and my clothes will reek of cigarette just from being out with friends that do and have smoked near me.
