PERSONALLY, I believe that Steely should host the next game.

Why?

Ever since people with no hosting experience started hosting the main mafia games, quality has been rapidly declining. By allowing someone like Steely to host, he can reset the standards.

Also, I think Mafia games should start going by their actual numbers. This wasn't Mafia 2, this was Mafia 10.

You want someone with hosting experience to host, but the only way to get hosting experience... is to host. You can't exactly blame the lack of quality in this game entirely on Bluecoat (or Animal in M8... mentos is a different story, I'm afraid). But, I digress. Although my memory serves me well and Tahu actually had wanted to host a game, I'm not against someone else who is confident being allowed to host.

As long as the person remembers that them being allowed to host is a privelege that many peoples entertainment depend upon. Then they'll probably put a bit more effort into it, especially if they want to be allowed to host again. In that case, I'd be fine with whoever is hosting. But to be safe, my recommendation is a legends.

I wasn't saying we should ban people who never have hosted from hosting, I'm saying the next game should be done by someone with experience so that future hosts have a better idea of how to host.

I think that sounds like a good idea, maybe there should be a hosting sign-up topic or something where people could volunteer to host.

People seem to have forgotten that Steely has already hosted one of the main forum games.

I think someone else should get a chance before we start doubling up on hosts. We've been over this. I don't think that lack of interest or laziness would be an issue with Penguin or Tahu, personally. 9 times out of 10 problems with the game aren't the host's fault. In my game, I thought I did a good job with the roles and the best job I could hosting. The game took a turn away from fun or whatever when the mafia couldn't coordinate and get their nightkill, and if I remember, DC was the vig and he nailed like 3 mafiosos.

....I dunno, thyker, it would be a stretch if you told me that you've never heard the saying that "the artist/author is their own biggest critic"...or something like that...

I was just stating that all the blame for a crappy game can't be placed on the host's shoulders, a lot of stuff that happens is circumstantial. Not sure what exactly you're getting at, or why you've been such an ass towards me lately, or why there was a reason to say that you quit reading my post, but whatever.

I agree with Lander. When I hosted I didn't expect Tweedy to nail several mafia straight off the bat as vigilante, or Paidea to publish a list of suspicions which had all the mafia and about two others.

The reason people (should) want to host is they want to put their own personal touch on the game. Mafia one, I really had no opportunity to do so, so I don't quite see it to be the same as hosting any of the later games.

Do you want me to just come out and say it? You weren't as great of a host as you say. If you truly believe you did all in your power to make the game as close as perfect to everyone, then you are not your biggest critic.

It's like using that saying to justify that whatever you create is good. Any damn person can say they are their biggest critic, but it takes a special person to actually take a step back and look at what they do, and expect better of themselves. So no, the saying in the way you say it (as if it applies to anyone) is not true, not even close.

The italicized terms are relative. I never said my game was perfect, I said I did my best. Good lord.

Well Steely, game one might have turned some people away from mafia if you came out blazing with complex roles and whatnot; the way you organized it was suitable for the first game in RP&LS.

To be honest I know Tahu has a creative mind and could come up with something good for a mafia game... he'd just need to pick up his activity. Mafia's not going to go away for a while; you'll have your shot at redemption, Steely.

Plus, were we going to go through with starting a second game halfway the first or was that idea scrapped? Regardless, Tahu, if you're going to host, get a sign-up going.

Just throwing this out there, but sometime in the future I wouldn't hosting a game. I hosted the second game at RuneHQ and it went quite well. Mind you, I really want to get a fair decent amount of games under my belt before I host again(anywhere), but I just thought I'd throw my name into the race for sometime in the future.
