Alastor set out towards the eastern end of town, it didn't take long since he knew several short cuts in the city. The family for lived on the hill just outside of town in quite an extravagant house. It seemed they're wealth had grown since he had last been here.
"Old man's investments got rich I guess." He said.
He had asked around town about what they knew about the family, and it appeared that they didn't go outside their house too much because they didn't want any of their children running away, it was completely walled off, it only opened once in a while at the front gate to let supplies in. Supplies were delivered once a week, and they happened to be delivered today. They were delivered in three "bundles" at any given time, since supplies had to last a whole week. He had asked the local townspeople, and they said that the supplies were delivered by hand, so hiding under any sort of caravan was out of the question. Alastor crept around to the front of the house. It was rather easy to hide since the family had failed to take care of the extensive amount of overgrown shrubbery outside their house. The gate was ordinary enough, it was about 10 feet high, wooden, and looked much like just a hinged door with sort of lock from the other side. Alastor thought for a minute. Alastor watched as the first batch of supplies was delivered. The gate opened and let the man in. The gate then closed exactly 20 seconds after, it appeared it was either operated by magic or by some sort of mechanism. About 5 minutes later,Alastor looked up as the gate was opened again to let the man out. Again, it closed after 20 seconds.
"Each gate has to open twice per bundle delivered, so that means I have four chances, however, walking in at the same time as the man would raise suspicion... I have to go in after when they go back to their normal duties and suspect nothing, but to keep the gate open or make it openable?"
Alastor looked at the lock a bit, and came up with a haphazard sort of plan. If it was a sort of locking mechanism on the other side, that means like any other door it had to connect to the frame with a mechanism of the same sorts. Jam something in that slot, and the door didn't close properly. Of course, this was all on the assumption that the door wasn't being watched.
The second bundle came and the door opened. This time Alastor examined the size of the mechanism as the door opened. It seemed there was a knob on the other side, and the only thing to lock it was a turn lock on the knob. Alastor pulled out a throwing knife and examined it's size compared to slot, about the same probably, it would serve it's purpose. As the door opened, Alastor threw his throwing knife and missed the lock slot by about 3 inches.
"Damn it, only two more tries, and one throwing knife" He said.
Alastor watched as the third shipment of supplies came, as the door opened, Alastor hesitated and didn't throw the knife. He had one more chance.
Ten minutes later, the door opened again. Alastor threw the knife into the lock, it jammed itself into the door's locking mechanism. He checked that the supply man didn't notice, it didn't seem like he did. Alastor watched as the door closed..but not fully, a slight gap was left. After the door was closed for a good 5 minutes, Alastor crept up the the door slowly, he was right, a VERY small gap was left.
"Damn..I'm gonna have to get a new wakizashi after this..." He said reluctantly. He unsheathed his wakizashi and slid it into the gap, and wedged a little bit. The blade flexed slightly, but didn't bend. Alastor wedged a bit harder, fixing his foot on the wall the door was attached too and pulled back with his body weight. the door slid open just enough for him to creep to. He sheathed his wakizashi and crept in. Luckily, they hadn't taken care of their front yard either... lots of shrubbery here as well.
