The official TF2 server for Runevillage is now publicly available. It's currently on an open rotation of official maps 24/7. Further information can be found here.

Thanks goes to Bluecoat and Burks for their efforts and contributions to get the server running.

From experience with Source servers they tend to leak memory (double in 1 month mine was) I restart mine every day at 5.30 UK time. It kills the child process and the parent respawns it

30 05 * * * pkill srcds_linux

Is the addition to the cron file if needed

The server is actually up for a one month trial run thanks to a generous donation from Burks. If you enjoy the server (or just like the thought of the village having one) you can donate to the three month renewal here: http://rvtf2.chipin.com/team-fortress-2-server-renewal

Future events for the server include game swapping days (Such as Counter Strike and Left 4 Dead games) and whatever the RVETs think would be fun.

(The actual renewal cost is actually closer to 35 dollars, but the first donation from Burks was more than was needed for the one month. In the event the server goes defunct, any money in the account will go toward the main site's server.)

Wait What ?

Thats a stupid amount to pay for it ! go to lowendbox.com and choose someone else. Games usually take around 300MB ram so anything 512 or above will be awesome. You can get yearly deals for 35 dollars which will run exactly the same. They dont kill too much bandwidth and most hosts are awesome for reliability !

I have to admit, that site links to some rather good providers. Might be worth looking into next month when renewal time comes along. The only disadvantage is that they're not streamlined for specific games like our current service, but that also means they're not going to have the same restrictions that I've come across.

But how can you streamline it ? You have full control over the server. Servers don't take up very much bandwidth. 100gb a month I tend to get

Multiplay (the service we're currently on) uses a system called Clanforge; it's just more organised. It also has certain restrictions, like, as I've recently found out, no bots. I can't say I'm pleased with that...

use something similar to http://www.gamepanelx.com/about.html

Editing the config files can be a pain. Im not 100% sure what you use the control panel for but something line gamepanelx should be ok
