So I was making a salsa earlier today, handling jalapenos. Ones I'd gotten from the same store in times past had never been that hot, so I wasn't really thinking about the spice. Anyways, I make the salsa, had a bit before putting it in the fridge for later. For whatever reason, I rub my eyes before having washed my hands.

My face had never been in more pain. I've been hit in the face pretty hard before, but my god this was miserable. I basically sat with my face under the sink for like 15 minutes, and my eyes and the whole area around them still burn. Bluh.

Anyone else ever pull a stupid move like that?

I loooove cooking. Seriously, I just finished making blackened grouper with swiss, sauteed carrots with pepper, and tortellini alfredo.

Yikes! That sounds painful. It really probably doesn't compare but I accidentally got Head & Shoulders shampoo in my eyes and it burned really badly, lol. Wasn't out of stupidity though, just leaked down.

The first time I handled habaneros, I did the same thing... My eyes were incredibly bloodshot and my eye socket got inflamed pretty badly.

I got mink oil in my eyes once when I was doing leather work. Pretty much the same amount of pain.

I would rub shampoo in my eyes at times. At least, that is all I can remember at the moment.

I once remember I was coloring something with an orange marker and was holding a lolipop in the other hand. The lolipop was also orange. One time I thought the loipop was in the other hand.

Hilarity ensued.

The moment I read the title, I knew it was either about digestion or your eyes. :P

Something similar to that happened to me with spicy pickles, but I also had sun screened fingers touch my eyes!

I did that once with habañero peppers. I was making a cake for class that had them in it and I rubbed my eye after handling one. It hurt so bad that I was running through my house screaming, haha. :)

I have on more than one occasion used the wrong saline solution for my contact lenses. There is the kind you can rinse, store and disinfect them with and then there is the kind you only use to really clean all the gunk off them because it will instantly dissolve your eyeballs if it touches them.

I unknowingly bought the wrong kind and plopped my lenses in it at night only to end up staggering to the sink half blind and screaming the next morning when I put them in and having to run water over my eye for several minutes.

I have done this not once but twice.

So, there's this place up in north Georgia called JB Roosters Wing House. It was featured on Man vs. Food for what is only known as the Nuclear Wing Challenge. Last summer in early July, I attempted it.

These are literally the hottest wings in the Southeast, if not the whole United States. They are six small chicken wings covered in barbecue sauce and Ghost Sauce. Ghost Sauce is the Guinness Book of World Records hottest hot sauce in the world. It is so hot, it is illegal to purchase when you're under 18 or 21 (can't remember) because in young children the spices can cause the throat to swell and close up, making it impossible to breathe. On top of that is the black pepper used in the US military's pepper spray. The staff tells you that you are a man if you can get through one. I proudly made it through two and a half, crying my eyes out and hunched over a trash can for twenty minutes while eating chocolate ice cream (it's the cure - just trust me).

Now, there's an epilogue to this story. Apparently, I didn't wash my hands off well enough that night. The next morning, the joints on my hands burned intensely, and the pain was only partially relieved by running my hands under a faucet of very cold water. Apparently, the pepper had seeped into my knuckles and gotten under the skin, becoming lodged in the joints and burning my nerves.

Since then, my spice tolerance has soared immensely.

I was making salsa about two weeks ago.. and I roasted the jalapenos on the grill before a cut them. Three hours later my hands were on fire.. and the skin was actually blistering.. I found online that rubbing alcohol removed the pepper oils and it actually worked after a extended period of soaking.

While working, I managed to get lemonade splashed in my eye. That kind of hurt.

I'll be working, and at my work I tend to get lots of small cuts on my hands because I work with cardboard a lot. Well, I sometimes grab some of the antiseptic stuff they have to wash my hands with and OH MY GOD IT BURNS.
