I just coded an AJAX guest book for my website. I need to work on it more, but I have this feeling I can do more with it. I don't know after starring at this thing for so long, I need some outside opinions.

Well, the data of your post says it was almost forty years ago, but other than that it certainly gets the job done. Perhaps lacking in the aesthetics department, though.

Okay, I second reggie with the eww, the approval thing is not want people want, of course they wouldn't realise it's there until after they've submitted in which case it's already too late to not post, but the wonderful thing about AJAX and user-generated content is that you could do everything instantly without refreshing the page, like you're doing when the page loads for the first time (which is actually unnecessary seeing as you could just write it directly to the page when you load it the first time, unless it actually is already doing that and it just takes a little while to load the pre-fetched comments)

Anyway, it'd be nicer without the validation, and if your post appeared on top instantly without refreshing, of course it would still check to see if another post hasn't been made before yours, so display any posts made while typing before you of course

Also, smileys would be a nice addition, I tried to see what happened if I included and image, but seeing as it hasn't validated yet, I can't check

Also, is there some sort of BB code and is HTML (partially) enabled/disabled?

Same goes for scripts and whatnot of course

It's not going to auto-refresh because I want to validate all the comments. I could have easily done an auto-refresh when a post is submitted but I didn't. As for bbcode and smilies.. Does it really matter?

The validate thing fails, apparently you didn't appreciate the humour in my post and got the complete wrong end of the stick, i think you got the point that I only realised existed after I submitted it.

In conclusion, post-it note jokes are always the best.
