My phone beeped today with a message I was not expecting and had completely forgotten about: "Open 2014 RV Time Capsule". It seems hard to believe, but it's true--another year has passed, and it's time to look at the messages our past selves left for us.
If you want to participate and leave a message for one-year-in-the-future-you, drop on over to this topic and make a post!

Well, we love Jaron for continuing to do these. I LOVE YOU, JARON.
I haven't much to say, future self. You are becoming more like an adult. Becoming more realistic/giving up on dreams, both are happening depending on perspective. But never stop learning, and never consider your opportunities squandered.
Do you still live in Baltimore? Wal-Mart? Salaried? You will have married Leah by now, how was the wedding? Honeymoon? This will have been a really eventful year for you, cheers to many more. Stay real.

You have a casual position working as Nightfill at Coles for a manager who seems to have no clue what he's doing. He has managed to run your department over the budget and you're losing shifts as a result. You are currently attending a gym that has been hugely beneficial to you socially, mentally and physically. You also play Wheelchair Basketball twice a week and mixed basketball once a week.
A week from now you'll be attending your first local Wheelchair basketball tournament. The weekend after that you're off to Adelaide for your cousin's wedding. In January you'll be going to a national? wheelchair basketball tournament on the sunny coast.
How is that all going?

Runescape: Playing OSRS Ironman primarily, 94 Firemaking (Ranked #1), 92 Woodcutting (Ranked #2). Thinking about working on Agility, Thieving, Hunter, Fishing & Cooking after that. You're considering playing this casually over Gw2.
Guild Wars 2: You are not playing Gw2 much atm and are playing OSRS Ironman instead. You are WvW rank 609, sPvP rank 36, have 3 Legendaries and 9/10 of your characters are lvl 80. You also have 3755 total hours played. You have roughly 3000g and are going for Eternity or possibly one of the new Legendaries that are supposedly coming out. Depending on how much OSRS continues to pique your interest, you are considering putting Gw2 on the backburner.
Life tracker
University: You've recently dropped two subjects in your second semester of your second degree, B.IT. You're excelling in the subjects you're doing but are stressed out and lack motivation/direction. You're not sure if you will continue or not although it's likely you will.
Exercise: You aren't really overweight (80kg) but you're incredibly unfit and fixing this has been a goal of yours you continue to neglect. You're playing Indoor Soccer, though, and are fairly confident it will inspire you to get off your ass and get fit this Summer.
Travel: For a long while now, you've wanted to go traveling and even live abroad. While this is not something you may do in 2015, it's something you at least want to be working towards and thinking more seriously about.
General life: You have an adorable labrador puppy who means the world to you. You still live at home and don't really get out much which you'd like to change. You don't have any real idea what you're going to do with your life.
Chin up, bro.

Wow, it's been a long time since i did one of these, and i picked a day to do it. Today, Thursday 13th of november, is not only my 23rd birthday, but also this forum's 12th. It's strange to look back on what's happened the last few years and see that it's all over. I've done my schooling, got my degree, and spent 3 years of my life partying, drinking and playing minecraft in lectures, but now i have to face the real world. but here I am, still sat at home, watching repeats of family guy and tapping at a laptop at the early hours of the morning, working menial jobs to pay my way. I wonder if anything will have changed by next year...
Have you actually got a proper job in computers? Did you ever redesign the Swan's website? Are you still at the Swan? (if yes, WHY THE MAN, LIKE, WHY THE ?) Are you back in Cambridge? Were you bottom of the pool league (I hope so!)? Still playing Minecraft? Still dabbling in RenSkep?
Oh, so many questions, and so many that i know the answer to... However, there's many known knowns and known unknowns, but it's the unknown unknowns that you have to watch out for. I hope you have avoided some of the known unknowns, grasped by the knackers the unknown unknowns and steer far away from the known knowns.
Now if you can remember wtf the last paragraph meant in a years time, i'll be very impressed, if so, treat yourself to a beer! if not, treat yourself to a beer! It's your birthbay !
Now where'd i put that beer...

Hell, if you insist on acting like some character from some TV show like always, at least pick better characters to imitate... Now you better go find some decent girl, get your ass to studying and working, try your little damn darndest to quit smoking and drinking (LIKE THAT'S GONNA HAPPEN HAH), and get your together. Also, how's the depression working out for you, lulz. Still lying to the psychiatrist so you don't get committed? Try not to lose all your friends though, if you can manage that.
When I hear from you the next year you better be back in school, heading towards graduation, assface.

Kikori 11,254 when this is done Well, you can thank Jaron for extending the Time Capsule.
So, what's new? ... Wait, I have to give you a comparison first. At the time of writing this, I'm about 125 nodes into trying to get a Piesteskin Treasure Map after recently having returned from Adam's. Jesus Christ, I'm not even in the future yet and I can see you just shaking your head at this. I also just got done figuring out just how much it sucks to have a green name. THEM'S THE BREAKS, SON, YOU CHOSE IT. Since Adam's immediately on the mind, he somehow managed to get up at 5 a.m. to get out to Murfreesburro for an army thing. I can't tell if this is gonna be a train wreck or a salvation made real, but it's really got me curious. Is he still out there in the sticks? Still putting off killing Dragons with a simple Wooden Sword and set of clothes paired with supposedly undogly enchantments? (He better be happy I got him to 100...) What do you know, got on about other people before myself again. Let's see.
Job: Showing no signs of improving. A 0% satisfaction rate among workers and a ~30% decrease in performance is apparently not enough to undo the biggest turd in the place raining down on everyone. Sigh. If you're still a Material Handler, however, that'll be utterly disappointing.
Home: We constantly preached early 2015. I'll even accept mid-early 2015. If it hasn't happened, take a hammer to your computers. After writing a new Time Capsule so you can mark it down for yourself. But we both know it's going to have happened. The biggest curiosity is where, how much was spent overall. Adam-bro will be curious just how much got spent on household stuff after all he offered. As long as it's warm, comfortable, stable, and pleasant. (And safe and well fortified and not in the sticks.)
Love: This should go along with Home. Not a thing needs asking here. Just some good wishes.
Games: The good stuff. Since Adam's still vaguely on the mind due to relations, let's just say I FINALLY got a taste of Skyrim through him, and... it's not bad. I'll really like the idea of pulling a half-him-half-what I wanted if I do end up getting it... but that's if I end up getting it. Kinda hoping I cave in and do. Sorta. At the moment, it's Final Fantasy XIV as the big one. Damn near a full year of playing. This one might be a keeper! The DS currently has The World Ends With You again. Even though EVERYTHING'S been done a dozen times over, it's just that amazing. Jaron's TF2 is/was fun, but at the time of writing this, has slowed down tremendously. PSO was a fun run, though without anyone else's assistance to look forward to, it's all but gone, too. Skyrim might be a new thing depending on the whims. We'll see. (It will most likely happen and we both know it. As this is typed you're already looking at Steam deals.)
You've never been one to forget friends, so I'm sure you won't have trouble breaking down the important ones' evolution over time. ;D
Did you ever learn to sing The Bells? Surely you have a shirt to accompany it. Is Homestuck FINALLY finished? I really ate my old words last time, because that Gigapause. GGaR still awesome? NoEvil any more active? Did you finally get that tooth looked at? Still the top dog on Whatpulse? Ever find out about Jack? Nathan ever get brave enough to travel? (For that matter, have you?) Sigh. Too many thoughts. I'm sure the point of this is being missed anyway; it's not for me to predict the future, it's for you to reflect on the past. I just hope it's pleasant.

Happy near-end of 2015 from Siebel Center's 2nd floor! I hope things are going well for you in California. I got some great news this morning, and it's left me excited for the year ahead.
If this time capsule is opened at the beginning of November as scheduled, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving planned! I just got back from Thanksgiving break myself, where, among other things, Nathan and I played Hyrule Warriors non-stop both Saturday and Sunday. It was awesome and I really, really hope we get to do it again sometime before I move.
As far as UIUC goes, tomorrow Jaime and I are finishing up our Portal path tracing presentation. Later this week I'll be recording and filming a Want You Gone parody for the CS225 final exam with Zach and Alvin, which should be pretty great. My Mulan parody for midterm 2 apparently has 2,199 views now, which is more than I thought it'd get. I may try to make a third video for the first midterm next semester. ...Good times! Philip and I are meeting tonight (as we do every Tuesday) to work on the IDSC project. I'm going to miss his knowledge, expertise, and enthusiasm on the project. Tonight's the time we try to get it functional for the third time, so I can carry on using it next semester. Philip, Michael, and Chenghao are all graduating in a couple of weeks, so unless I get some new people on the project, I'll be all alone in the home stretch of my master's thesis work come Spring. Then again, you probably only have (er, had) CS519 next semester along with your master's work, so you should have more than enough time to spend on it!
My life right now is my schoolwork, basically (whereas yours, I know, is actual work). Are you doing cool things?
Let's see what else we can manage to compare between now and the future. Recent video games I've played include Hyrule Warriors, the Mario Kart 8 DLC, and of course Smash Bros. 4 for both consoles. I also recently got Project Diva F 2nd and have beaten every song on that, though not yet on Hard or Extreme. That's one game I intend to platinum. I got super far on Dark Souls 2 as well, but with everything else going on, I'm not sure I'll be able to platinum that one as well. I'm halfway through NG+1 and I'd have to beat every boss in the game one more time to reach the middle of NG+2 for the trophy. My PSN account is at level 14.59 with 22 platinum trophies, but I can think of probably two more that I'll have in a year's time. Did TF2 add any Mann vs. Machine missions? If so, I bet you guys cleared all those on Peridot lickety-split.
Speaking of gemstones, I have the full intention of buying a nice new desktop next summer. I'll have finally reached Dragonstone, haha! ...I have no idea what I'll call my desktop after that one. I hope it's got a nice speedy hard drive, since that's what my current laptop is lacking. Also graphics and whatever. Whatever!
So last summer I spent it working on Crissaegrim. I had a lot of plans for it but they slowed down pretty bad near the end of the summer, and it didn't help that it was tough to overcome the lag inherent in such a multiplayer game. It was pretty awesome, though. Did you do anything of a similar variety last summer? With Peridot online, you've got a lot of options available.
117,123 plays right now on Last.FM. 2,030 of those are on Black Rose / Green Sun which retains its top spot, since #2 Biolizard is just a smidgen over 1,100. On WhatPulse I have, like, 36 million keys and 7.36 million mouse clicks. Garnet has 16.2% of my total keys with almost 6 million. Where's Dragonstone at?
So I guess that's all I've got for the time being! I'm sure other neat things will happen over the course of the next year. You'll probably play a lot of Smash Bros. 4 (good luck with the Challenge board), maybe Starcraft 2's final part will come out, and hopefully you'll have some nice vacations and travels between now and then. I wish you the best of luck. See you next year!

Yeah, making that avatar was pretty good I have it saved all over the place. did you go snowboarding in the 2014/2015 season??!! How are the Banff friends? Tough Mudder was fun. 3hrs 20mins. I'm hoping to be faster the second time. Tank farm is finally done. After 281 days, its done. It went well into November this year. Now I'm doing odd jobs around Calgary before christmas. Its nice to be working out of the house. My current job is a pipeline near turner valley. Its nice out there! Did you end up getting sleds last winter? Carron doesnt drive yet, but she is working at the nursing home. My truck still doesnt have much work done to it but maybe this time next year they will have a 1/2 ton ram hellcat that would be awesome!
As for investments, student loans are 30% paid off. Truck is paid off. I havn't been putting anything extra into the mortgage though. Roy has 7k now. I have dropped ~2k into the basement, and it isn't finished yet. So no renters. Can't wait to get rid of this double typing Q10. Hope the Classic rocks! How did the deck building go?

remember making this? it was fun!
Yeah, saving is going well. This past summer I could only charge for one quad, which cut my earnings substantially. But on the plus side, the people at this job are really good people! And if I keep working hard, I might get a shot at getting hired on with Devon. Nope, im not close to becoming an ALS. Im really unsure of becoming one. Yeah, debt is shrinking. Its nice I havnt put much into my truck. A house is more important. I did, however, have to put a new rear window in silly me. I went snowboarding lots!!! It was excellent!! That trip to big white rocked! I really hope something like that happens again this winter. Red Phat doesnt look like it will ever happen. and the only thing below 80 is queer-neering. its 78.(also lame divnation is lvl 1. Meh.). All noncombat stats will need to be 85 to get 2000 total. Yeah, combat really sucks. All my pker accounts are useless. Rs07 is a good place to pk! But you had to start t lvl3 again. RS3 is lame compared to what I was hoping. RS3 is basically just a new story, which im not really following. Something about gods being pissed off. Meh. But the HTML5 thing looks cool! Its just not released yet. The new sounds are awesome! Going to the gym is something I still do. Im not really seeing a ton of results yet. Maybe by christmas the rest of my stomach will be defined. Im eating a lot better! Carron doesnt have her license yet. *sigh* one day. She also doesnt have a job. She needs to get on that. And stop whining about starting at minimum wage jobs. You need to start somewhere. Her school is well though. Really really good marks so far!
Well, this tank farm wont build itself! The sumps are going in tomorrow. The clay is about 85% done. The gravel is done on the access road, and on the tank bases, but no where else. The sand on the tanks is all done! 3mm tolerance complete!
See you next year! Hope you have some things like the truck or school loan paid off. And you have a few investments made! Like a house or stocks.

Hey Future Owen, hope all is well, and you will be either planning another trip to scotland(or some other country really, just see lots of the world), OR saving for a house. how is working for all-can going? are you closer to becoming an ALS? hopefully by now you have little debt! and put some sweet things onto your truck! i hope you go snowboarding more this winter! how close are you to getting a red Phat? how about all noncombat stats over 80? or 2000 total level? is the new combat system still as lame as you currently think it is? hows RS3 looking? you better still be going to the gym! if not, get off your fat ass and go! if you are, congrats hows the 6pack look? music: system of a down is still entertaining. blood by in this moment is new. new stuff from shinedown is out. how is Carron? i hope she is well and drives cars. and is comfortable with work/school combo

This time last year you felt as though you had finally beaten the bout of depression you were going through for most of the year.
Your best friends were Aden, Hayden and Dylan. Hayden and Dilron have since gone home-- have you seen them since? For that matter, are you still even living in Tundra Bay? Hope not, but who knows, maybe you needed a year to get on your feet.
You were also sorta getting to know a girl round this time. Did anything come of that? It looked bretty gud.
Hope things are okay. Happy birthday btw

That Mulan video has like twice as many views now, lol. It's because it's a Disney thing, but the students love it. I filmed that Want You Gone parody but I was sick at the time and holy cow my voice sucked so hard. I hated it. Last semester I went all-out with a one-take, 4-minute song to the tune of Sword Art Online II's second opening. That worked out much better. I'd do something like that at Google if everything weren't so confidential!

Most of my video games lately are from Steam. I stopped Dark Souls 2 exactly where you are. I'll probably get DS3 when it comes out though. Maybe Steam this time.

8 years in the making and you waste your shot. I continued the gemstone theme with Moonstone and Zircon, but I was running out of good ones, man! In lieu of Dragonstone, I opted for a new naming scheme. My awesome new desktop computer is named Alexandros.

I thought about it! Last year you discovered Mamonosweeper and how awesome it was. When agar.io came out and took the world by storm, I planned to make a similar online multiplayer Mamonosweeper clone. Alas, I realized that I'd rather spend my last summer at home with my family instead of coding, so it never happened.

128,071 plays on Last.FM; that's pretty far down from the average I think! Black Rose / Green Sun is up to 2,219 which still flabbergasts people when they ask if I have Last.FM. WhatPulse is up to 40 million keys and 8 million mouse clicks, with 9.4 million on Garnet and 400k on Alexandros.

Oh trust me, I got some nice surprises ahead. With respect to Smash Bros., I obliterated the challenge board on both 3DS and Wii U, which was no easy feat! And SC2: Legacy of the Void isn't out yet. It comes out...oh, in 9 days actually. Hrm, I have a feeling I'll be playing that in a couple of weeks...
No big vacations planned, but I am going home for ~12 days at Christmastime!

Depending on how much OSRS continues to pique your interest, you are considering putting Gw2 on the backburner.
You are now playing Gw2 a lot, instead of Ironman. WvW Rank 854 (you've lost interest in WvW), sPvP rank 54 (I think), have 5 legendaries (7 if you count twilight/sunrise skins) and 11/11 of your characters are lvl 80. You have played 4900 hours total, so 1145 since this capsule. I don't want to begin to imagine how much of that was during the last 2 months... You also have more gold than you had here, despite making several more legendaries, but are still keen for the new legendaries.

University: You've recently dropped two subjects in your second semester of your second degree, B.IT. You're excelling in the subjects you're doing but are stressed out and lack motivation/direction. You're not sure if you will continue or not although it's likely you will.
Dropped 2 subjects in Semester 2 2014, dropped more subjects in Semester 1 2015... didn't even bother kidding yourself about Semester 2, and dropped your subjects a few weeks in after not attending at all.

Exercise: You aren't really overweight (80kg) but you're incredibly unfit and fixing this has been a goal of yours you continue to neglect. You're playing Indoor Soccer, though, and are fairly confident it will inspire you to get off your ass and get fit this Summer.
One day. One day. Damn you exercise, damn you.

Travel: For a long while now, you've wanted to go traveling and even live abroad. While this is not something you may do in 2015, it's something you at least want to be working towards and thinking more seriously about.
Have saved more money towards it, but don't have a plan of any sorts yet.

General life: You have an adorable labrador puppy who means the world to you. You still live at home and don't really get out much which you'd like to change. You don't have any real idea what you're going to do with your life.
Well... nothing has really changed here at all. RIP. My puppy is still damn awesome though.

Let's see.
Still Kikori. 11,306 posts when this is done. You forgot the period in your sentence, derpy. :p Jaron has been thanked as of re-rearing that line just now. Lessee... Tidbits and lowdown: Yeah, treasure maps were fun, but became useless pretty quick. I didn't shake my head, though. Back to a blue name, little difference. Turns out that didn't pan out due to tattoos, but he's doing well enough. It's good. As far as I know he... is? He hasn't spoken of that game in a while, but he loves our help.

Job: Showing no signs of improving. A 0% satisfaction rate among workers and a ~30% decrease in performance is apparently not enough to undo the biggest turd in the place raining down on everyone. Sigh. If you're still a Material Handler, however, that'll be utterly disappointing.
Job: Don't be disappointed. Material Handler still. But it's a blessing in disguise that I failed to get Training Coordinator because the Trainer doesn't actually train people. So I still get to be the most reliable trainer by being out in the field. Eventually they finally listened, if to the numbers instead of me, and 's actually been on a sort of upswing. It's still not a career, but it's an improvement.

Home: The computers are saved. You were going to have rushed things far too much to shoot for Early 2015, but needless to say, Hoem worked out. It's overall affordable, both Misty and I can save about $400 apiece per month after everything's paid. It's warm, comfortable, stable, and pleasant. And fairly safe due to a good neighborhood and... well, not incredibly fortified.

Games: You know how Animal Crossing was just one of those titles? Well, guess agian, buddy! Wait, getting ahead of myself. Skyrim? Played it, enjoyed it, never beat it because the story wasn't at all thrilling and the god-based sidequests just became grating as the gods got more annoying. FFXIV? As of Heavensward, the appeal vanished. It might be worth getting back into at some point, but by that point, another fad will have come around and I'll just be late to the party again. TWEWY? Still fun, but as of playing on a 3DS, it doesn't run as well. TF2 has still slowed down, but it's still insanely fun to run with the crew. PSO did indeed vanish entirely.
So let's see. Smash Bros was and is a fun one, certainly a good all around solid title for the Smash line. But as with competitive records in Dota, competitive records in Smash are for some stupid reason gut-wrenching. There was a fun playthrough of Persona 3 for Misty's viewing pleasure and a little over halfway through FFXII before Animal Crossing: New Leaf became a thing. And since my family's always so about wanting a shopping list, who knows? Maybe there will be more to play down the road.

Tidbits again: No such luck. I have two shirts, though. It's not, though Hussie has mentioned it's VERY close page-wise. Time wise, not so much. GGaR is still awesome. NoEvil doesn't seem to be more frequent, but it's improving. No. Yes. Afraid not, searching never worked. He's actually in an apartment on his own for college, and able to return home on weekends. Good setup. (For that matter, I have, you one-year-younger punk.) Not enough thoughts, keep hitting me with more.
Oh, wait. Reflect on the past. Well, Voice Picking REALLY sucked. Being stuck in a rut of being physically alone with constant anger at a failure of a work device in a workplace full of cold, tension, and mistrust REALLY sucked. In hindsight, FFXIV was a godsend because of how strong the friend and team ties were at the time. A couple of them remain, the memories of playing it are amazing and all, but my current living and headspace are just so much better.
Now to have fun reading everyone else's responses to their own time capsules.

I'm not quite sure what the first sentence is referring to. Yes, i am still in College and undergraduate studies, even when i have all the requirements to graduate. Hiding out in college FTW! I'm at 2297 total now, not as much as i expected. I wanted a little more than 2300 by now.

RV name: Rory Post count: 6,722 Message: As of this post you are nursing a sprained ankle from basketball training.
Sprained ankle is better, but now I have a chronic finger issue, also from basketball! The casual position is now part-time, with some management shifts thrown in here and there. The said manager was ousted and demoted to another store, and replaced with a much better manager. Still attending the same gym, still gaining results. The Wheelchair basketball tournament was great! We didn't win but we had a good time. The wedding was good, nice little bit of time away. The national tournament never ended up happening unfortunately, but there's always next year!

How was your Thesis Film? Was it a steaming pile of garbage, or was it bretty gud?
Yeah, it's all ogre. It was a steaming pile of garbage, but shooting it was bretty gud. There are some things about it I'm happy with anyways.

The depression is back and worse than ever. I guess I'm technically better off than I was last time though.
Hayden came back for graduation (finally cut his hair and trimmed his beard, much better look fam), and I have skype/vanilla wow sessions with him and Aden semi-regularly. Dilron has dropped off the face of the planet though. RIP
Still in Thunder Bay but right now there's some plans to go to Toronto with Aden, Hayley, Mike, Jamie, Brady and maybe some others next summer. So let's hope.

I don't get the response. Is that last part an acronymn?
