Hey everyone!

So the server move went pretty well, but now that RuneVillage's original web hosting has actually expired, a couple of problems have reared their ugly heads, and I'm here to give you an update on them.

The issues at hand

1) I thought I had everything copied over, but it seems that a few select images and files were pointing explicitly at RuneVillage the whole time, and not locally to this copy of ThePub. This is most obvious on the Login page. What it means right now is that a few images or styles are currently broken.

2) Apparently, any images that point at RuneVillage.com (because they point to a server without web hosting now I guess) are getting labeled as malware by Avast Antivirus, which is in turn blocking any pages with those images. It's not actually malware--I fixed a couple of images two nights ago and that solved the problem--I just apparently haven't found them all. The fuzzy bunny used in the censor is one such case. Willowguy's signature is another example: it contains three images that used to be on RV, and then were removed from RV a while back (because I copied RV to move it here and it wasn't in there.) Back on runevillage.com this was just a harmless broken image, but now with runevillage.com actually gone, Avast is throwing a fit about it.

3) "runevillage.com" is now redirected to "poorshark.com/ThePub". That means if you had "runevillage.com/ThePub" bookmarked, it's currently sending you to "poorshark.com/ThePub/ThePub", which doesn't exist. I'm aware of this problem and am looking into the best way to fix it.

4) Every once in a rare while, you may see a white error page with an error code of 500. As far as I can tell, this is harmless and refreshing the page has always fixed the problem. I assume it's because RuneVillage's database is gigantic (10 years of STUFF) and my web site's not used to it. It hasn't caused any actual problems, though, but if you encounter it, I already know about it.

I'm planning on trying to fix the first three problems on this list this week.

How you can help

1) I don't have Avast Antivirus so I'm not seeing these "malware" claims--but if you do, and Avast blocks a page for you, please post here or PM me with what page you were on, and what the blocked image name was, and I'll see if I can remedy the problem.

2) If you come across any other problems with the site, feel free to post them here.

Thanks everyone!
-Jaron

You should just make /ThePub/ThePub/ redirect to /ThePub/. :P

One really minor thing I've noticed is that the Daylight Savings stuff didn't adjust right. That might be on my end but I have no way of telling so there you go.

Daylight Savings Time has always been a non-automatic thing that you have to set yourself whenever it changes, unfortunately. To fix it, go to User Control Panel -> Board Preferences (Edit global settings) -> Summer Time/DST is in effect.

Runevillage the forum is pretty well much done. Runevillage the group will eventually die, but as long as we're still friends with each other in the end, it's still a pretty big thought in our heads. Runevillage the family is forever, no matter where we settle down. If absolutely nothing else ever comes of Runevillage in the future, that alone is a pretty damn awesome thought.

Haha, you're welcome guys. :) It's not a big deal; I know a few of you would have done the same in my position.

Indeed, but it also had to account for all of the files in those directories as well. Even the censor fuzzy bunny was getting redirected to poorshark.com/ThePub/ThePub/[bunny] which was, of course, broken. :P

An update

I've reverted us to our old login page and fixed the redirect problem, so anything that was pointing at poorshark.com/ThePub/ThePub now correctly only has one ThePub instead of two. This fixed a whole lot of images, as well. For the most part, I think that's mainly what was wrong with the site.

That being said--the potential for Avast to still be unhappy is still out there. If anyone comes across this problem again and it blocks any pages or images, please do let me know! I'll do my best to try and resolve that problem if it appears.
