So, it's been a full week since the last mafia ended, and no-ones taking the initiative, so here goes. You know the deal, post your name to sign up, the game will begin sometime Sunday (Edit: There is a change I can start it sometime Thursday, but that's iffy for now.). In the meantime, I want you all to vote on a few rule/gameplay changes meant to keep the game active and orderly.

ODPs:
Enforced ODP: ODP is limited to a single, nonrevealing post. Anything else will result in a ban from the next game.
No ODP: No posts after death will be allowed. Any post-death posts will result in a ban from the next game.

Prods:
No Prods: No prods will be issued during the game.
Prod On Request: Prods will only issued when players request one.
2 Game Day Prod v1: If someone is inactive for two straight game-days, they will be prodded. The result of the prod will not be given. Even if the prodded player does not respond, he will remain in the game. It will be the players' responsibility to remove him from play.
2 Game Day Prod v2: If someone is inactive for two straight game-days, they will be prodded. The result of the prod will be given. If the prodded player does not responded within 72 hours, he will be replaced.
Game-Daily Prod: All players, unless they specifically ask not to, will receive a PM at the start of each game day.

Lynching:
Standard Lynching: Lynches happen as normal, needing a majority to kill.
Deadline Lynching: A majority of votes is need to kill before the end of the day. However, if the day ends without a lynch, if a target has over 50% of the votes needed, he will be lynched regardless.

This is going to be approval voting, so just vote for any changes you'd like to see, and the majority is what will go. If you like two options but can't decide, you may vote for both. Right now, we more or less have enforced ODPs, prod on request, and standard lynching. If you simply want to keep it that way, vote for those and nothing else.

When the game begins, any adjustments decided by this thread will be reflected into the rules listed at the start of the game, so please make sure to read them.

Also, I will start enforcing violations of ODPs from last game. Lander, Deathtide, I'm sorry, but we have to start this sooner or later, so I can't let you play this game.

Players:
1. Topsummoner
2. DragonCrusher1
3. bluecoat
4. Thyker
5. Dr Henry
6. Paidea
7. Tweedy
8. Jackstick
9. Hojunhu

12. mentos

Voted on everything but standard/deadline lynching. I'm undecided on the merits of forcing a lynch; it takes a bit of the difficulty away from the game I feel. At the same time, it's a damn pain when inactives make lynches impossible.

Which is why I voted for 2 day prod v2. :awesome:

It makes me favour standard lynching more, but I'm still holding off for a bit.

Well, even with prods, if the inactives hold the majority, lynches in either case will not happen.

Deadline lynching doesn't quite work like that... the name sort of implies that a lynch must take place. It's not about 50% of the required votes, it's about who has the most votes at a particular deadline. If two players are tied, whoever held that amount of votes longer is lynched. If you use this method, you will probably have to implement longer days than 72 hours.

Standard lynching usually works better in non-variation games because it more accurately reflects the realism of a non-infinite day.

Prod is a loose term. You can't force someone to post, and giving away the "result of the prod" is borderline interference. What exactly does prodding even do, besides making sure a player didn't quit the game?

Finally, this is a personal suggestion, but I'd limit the number of players to at most 20.

I concur. We must lynch him now for the sake of the metagame, we MUST teach people that they can't go around claiming "anniversary" and expect leniency. Topsummoner.

Interesting that you bring up realism with time, but say a prod is inteference. In a real life setting, you could easily distinguish quitters from lurkers by who leaves, and who simply hangs back and listens.
Why is a prod any different from the idea of just seeing that kind of lurking behavior?

I'm not in, by the way.

Deadline lynching, in its true meaning, would definitely not fit a regular mafia game, so I made the modification of half a majority, and then couldn't think of another explanation.

As for prods... A prod will be defined as a single PM to a player, from the host, reminding them that they are in the game. While giving the result may be borderline interference, it can still fit the game narrative. For example, townsfolk would be able to tell the difference between a player sitting and watching their arguments the whole day, and one who wanders off to take a nap while the rest argue in the town square. But again, this is why I'm putting it to a vote and not just making a decision.

Prodding itself isn't interference... letting others know how the prodded responded exactly would be, in my opinion. However, you make a good point about villagers being able to see who was present but silent and who simply didn't show up. If you were to reveal the "response", it should simply be either a 'they responded to the prod' or 'they did not respond to the prod'. If they responded, then the villagers know they're the present but silent type. If they didn't respond to the prod... you'd probably have to start looking for a replacement.

Well I just realized a slight problem with the 2-day prods... If I'm to replace a player for inactivity, or not responding to a prod, other players can use this to garner whether or not the prod was responded to. Say if I prod someone, and simply say that the person has been prodded, whether or not the player remains in game is enough to figure out if someone is lurking or inactive.

The following adjustment will then be made to the above options:

2 Game Day Prod v1:
If someone is inactive for two straight game-days, they will be prodded. The result of the prod will not be given. Even if the prodded player does not responded, he will remain in the game. It will be the players' responsibility to remove him from play.

2 Game Day Prod v2:
If someone is inactive for two straight game-days, they will be prodded. The result of the prod will be given. If the prodded player does not responded within 72 hours, he will be replaced.

Oh, and Paidea, posts in the game topic concerning prods will be kept to a bare minimum of information... At the start of the day I'd give a post, "Player X has been prodded," followed by "Player X has responded to his/her prod" whenever they do, or at the beginning of the next day, if the prod was responded to during the night. I agree, anything else would be interference.

In, but I suggest v1 for prods. Inactivity is a strategy, albeit an easily avoidable one, but a strategy nonetheless. I find it funny that some people in the last game who didn't want to lynch the inactives when I suggested it were the ones who wanted to ban inactivity.

But Hoj, it's not a strategy that should be promoted.

V1 near completely removes the point of a prod.

I vote V2.
