Many of you (read: all ten of you who actually pay attention to this forum) are aware that the Roleplay and Literary Society (hereby referred to as the RP&LS) has practically died. There was a time when it was big, popular, and full of people. Battlefield 7, for example, had over twenty combatants and stretched over many, many pages. I would attest that BF7 was the highest point from which the RP&LS started to fail. Why it did is up for discussion, but more importantly is how we can bring it back. Battlefield 10 had fewer than ten participants and died in a bout a week. Final Fantasy Oblivia suffered an even worse fate.
However, our plight is that we have few new RPers. Even worse, this means that fewer people pay attention to the forum, thus meaning even fewer new participants, and so on. It's a vicious cycle that's reached it's conclusion. We have basically no new active members in the RP&LS. I propose that we start a petition to get Hiker or another admin to post an announcement about this, thus raising awareness of our problem. We should also start a giant roleplay that would be open to everyone and easy to join (I'm thinking a Battlefield would be a good idea for that).
Any other ideas? I don't want this to die out entirely, but we need to do something now.

I agre with your idea with the having an admin post about this. The reason I think its died out si because not many new roleplays are made, and we live in an age where people prefer being able to see what they are playing, instead of it being just text. But it would take a lot of coding, so we can't do that. We need to have a global banner or pm, "Save the Dieing Roleplay and Literary Society".

Battlefields were fun until they both became so fast paced that people who could only check so often would miss out on a page of posts and lose their place in the topic. Some users, instead of calmly debating a misunderstanding in what was said and done, would bring a full-scale OOC war to match the actual fighting. Characters seem recycled now and school's starting. The battlefields won't be nearly as glorious as they used to be.
Final Fantasy Oblivia lacked active posters.
Your roleplay, sorry, was doomed from the start.

Any other ideas? I don't want this to die out entirely, but we need to do something now.

Battlefields with everyone in the forum would be needlessly confusing, too fast paced to work, and a global wouldn't really raise many eyebrows to the roleplaying section so much as the literary section. What's more, we will probably have more of Jaron, meaning people will enjoy reading more than posting.

Just look at the list of characters in Jaron's battlefield. Just look at that list. Fifteen people. 15. I didn't count on Andrey to be active, so we can safely call that 14. But still. Me and Znath didn't participate, but we're certainly active on this forum. 16.
If you can call sixteen people a "small" group on this forum, try again. The amount of people we've had in the last month is well over any other I've seen. Also, in the past, we have had others such as Earl of March, Dasher, and Owen until they split for various reasons. Other people will eventually split, too, most likely for school and work or real life altogether (or all three, I.E. Zeta).

Now look at the top active roleplays.
Fall of Crandor consists of Me, Znath, Chipp, and Stip
Imagination consists of Me, Znath, Chipp, Stip, Top, and if he asks again, I can bring Rat back (since the "death" was Pyro's doing, not mine).
Hope to the Hopeless, if it gets revived, will consist of Me, Znath, Chipp, Aquinas, Earl, and sm12905.
I couldn't count you because your overpowering got you kicked off two topics. We've had our discussion on that, that's all I'll say.

Call me crazy, but I think my previous statement of "some people are busy" holds true. Some people. Not all. Aquinas, Earl of March, sm, and quite a few people from the battlefield topic (like Antic Hero) are people I'd never have considered for activity on this forum, but lo and behold, they proved they could be active if they were interested in a topic. So give them something to be interested in and, if nothing else, we can have more people we already know will be willing to post and post well. THEN, if that fails, you can call it safe to look elsewhere, despite my huge doubts that there are many storywriter / roleplayer types who haven't already posted here.

Kikori, I'm probably not going to ask to be let back in, because I'm betting that most of them are a bit mad at me for going away.

In addition to what Kik posted, it's partly a combination of people leaving, and people ceasing to care. No amount of advertisement could make those that don't care have an interest again. In the past year or so we've pretty much lost Crafty Llama, Knux, Aznpkilla, Soren, Seakip, etc. as frequent posters, and Andrey sometime before that, just to name a few.

I personally don't think a global announcement is needed, and I would never agree to a global PM. (Those things are handed out WAY too easily as it is.) The reason being is that this is a public forum, and always has been. People know about it, and they choose not to enter. It would be like if we had a global saying "Revive the Debate Forum!" People that don't like the Debate Forum aren't going to suddenly go "Oh, right, I should totally check in and post!" They'll keep on ignoring it, and that's most likely what any attempts with RP&LS would lead to.

The very best way to revive the Roleplay and Literary Society would be to use the remaining members to keep it active. Start stories or roleplays, but if you've got two people--run with that. Imagination is still pretty neat, and without it the forum would be nearly dead. BF10 is just sort of an embarassment in that it's been four weeks since a single post has been put on it. I guess it's safe to say they had their reign, and it's over. I would practice what I preach and restart on my own story, but after nearly two years I still can't seem to get it down the way I want, and that certainly isn't helping the Literary Society.

I don't know what the future holds for RS&LP, but trust me, over my dead body will this forum be going anywhere. Active or not, it will be here to stay. Now all we can do is keep it active with the resources we have.

I'm not.

Anyways, on topic... Really, the only thing that used to unite all the people's of the Roleplay forum was the Battlefield series, but the flame in Battlefield's heart has finally died down and perished. It could be seen coming with BF8, and finally happened with 10. It'd be best to let it sleep for a while before trying to revive. And by I while, I don't mean something like two weeks. REALLY, let it rest.

There will never be one roleplay that can attract everyone, even a few of the active people will not find interest in something. But between Imagination and The Fall of Crandor, we pretty much have everyone in tow... Best thing to do right now is to let those roleplays run out, and think of new ideas for when they end. As for those that AREN'T in roleplays such as those that have been 'killed off' in Imagination, as Jaron said, try to run with something even if you don't have many people.

As for stories... I spose I should start writing The Dragon Threat Book 3.

And I really should finish A Rat's Tale: The Narsool Blade, and get started on the third I already have ideas for.

I can never seem to get around to writing more Golden Chinchilla stories. I've started one at least five times, but I can't continue it.
It would be nice if someone could start another roleplay, though. Something like Imagination, but without giving players unlimited power (I tend to use whatever power is given to me).

the literary part isn't too much in danger from what I've seen.
So thus the RP part isn't going to die either. The main danger to the rp
part would be then like just simply no RPers joining and so then no
new RPs get started and current ones slow down to a crawl.

I'm usually looking for active people to join mine, but the problem being
primarily that there aren't many people to join.

Biggest killer I tend to see in RP topics is people limiting too much
the variety allowed eg "only human characters, all the story will be
based on sieken densetsu 3, everyone must post in a specific format,
everyone must post every hour on the hour... etc...

I never really liked joining battlefields cause they tend to have a tremendous
lack of description and PROPER NOUNS. Honestly the amount of times I saw things like:

"And he peformed deuskobuto no jutsu at the man running towards him"
who performed what at who. You can't expect everyone to just
simply *know* what the hell you're talking about.

Then regarding overlimiting a RP. That's things like sorry the FF tactics thing
I don't like FF games... let alone FF tactics or a RP using characters
from an offshoot of the series. Then also races...
In case it isn't too obvious, I hardly ever choose a human character.
Nothing personal, it's just boring in its own way. A lot can be done when
not all characters are angsty buffed up warriors whos parents died,
or super elves with unlimited power. Sometime it's the inperfections of
your character that can make things more memorable.

Okay, you know what? I'm going to call one thing out right here.

Tahu, from person to person (meaning my moderatorship is in no way connected to what I'm saying), UNLIMITED POWER IS WHY YOU'RE HATED (and if it's not hated, it's shunned) ON THIS FORUM! Everyone who rejects and shuns you in their topics is tired of the exact same thing; Tahu godmodding. You said it to me directly in PM, and I will pull the quote up on this if need be, you want your characters to be so originally powerful that you don't NEED to stretch their defined powers to win anything.

THAT'S! THE! PROBLEM!

Everyone else, literally everybody else who's so much as TOUCHED roleplay here, limits their characters! Everyone's mortal, everyone can be hurt, everyone takes more than a snap of their fingers to hurt another character or NPC, everyone isn't a god. You're the only person who intentionally, willingly, and knowingly overpowers their characters. Enough of it, Tahu, that's why you get kicked off or kicked around!

P.S. Chipp, quality is good but there has to be at least SOME number of people to keep the stories from feeling like the same old thing D:

Yes, you've told me that many times. However, when I actually try to do it (BF10 being the only roleplay since Imagination), the roleplay dies.
And I don't want to have to stretch my character's powers to the point where an argument ensures, which again happened in every roleplay up to BF10. There, no real arguments. And again, it dies. I'm trying to change, but I don't feel like I'm being given enough chances.

I would've kept posting or trying to write stories, but I'm going to be brutally honest here. RuneVillage is a Fuzzy Bunny audience. Some people don't seem to understand that just because this is a Runescape fansite, they aren't limited to writing cheap fan-fiction stories.

However, ever since most of the people from the original "group" left (the ones that populated this forum, mostly mentioned by Jaron), the creativity in here has taken a nosedive. We used to have some pretty awesome stories going on here. RP's were almost nonexistent, I'm afraid, and I quite liked it like that.

Now we have stories that literally have characters with Runescape names, numbers and all, and if you see too much of something you become blind to everything else around it. Everyone got used to cheap Runescape stories to the point that if anything was non-RS, no one would pay attention to it. I'm not talking about my stories, I stopped writing a long time ago because I don't have the time for it. I'm talking about other peoples' too.

There's only so many times you can beat a dead horse before it starts decaying. Bring something new into the forum and maybe then you might have a chance at reviving it. I doubt it very much.

Anyone who can write decently can start a RP really. You might ask around
to find a plot that people will like or something like that, but really starting one
isn't too hard. Keeping one going just takes a little planning and finding
the right people that'll help you keep it going.

Hah, yeah, this one's taken a long time, but I'm really anxious to take up a new rp and I've learned some things from hope to the hopeless to make the next one maybe a little bit shorter ;-)

Although I've kinda enjoyed having hope to the hopeless to come to whenever I want to write!
