Exclusive Interview with Jagex !

Jagex have very kindly spared some time to answer a few questions we wanted to put to them. The questions covered a large part of Runescape and how they feel the launch of RS2 went, as well as their plans for Runescape Classic.
They hinted only briefly on the forthcoming Egyptian and Viking lands. The reply is the best undersell I have ever seen ! So here it is, from the Company themselves !

1. The launch of RS has been a major landmark in Runescape’s development. How does Jagex feel the launch has gone and was it to plan ?

The launch has gone excellently, it went as planned with an absolute minimum of change from the initial plans.

2. Has the launch resulted in a bigger change to membership either on the free play or members worlds than you expected ? Has it changed significantly at all ?

The beta and the full launch have both seen increases in membership, as players have wanted to experience the full game.

3. With players still wanting to keep RS classic, do you see a time when it will be withdrawn ? If so, do you have an idea of when ?

We were surprised by the number of people wanting to continue to play Runescape-Classic. We responded to this by keeping some classic worlds open, we have no immediate plans to close the classic game.

4. Is RS classic attracting that many players ?

Not nearly as many as in Runescape, however there is a core of players that want to stay.

5. There have been so many new features with RS2 for players to learn, do you have a policy of releasing them when you are ready or when you feel players are ready ?

Its a bit of both, we release a bit at a time, so it shouldn’t be overwhelming.

6. One of the features members are greatly interested in is the addition of new lands. Can you comment on the release of lands of Vikings or Egyptians ?

Um, they are going to look fantastic!

7. Freeplay members have been wondering if there are to be any major updates to their game. Do have any plans to develop the freeworld game to any great degree ?

We stand by our commitment to our free players, however our efforts are concentrated on our members.

8. How useful do you find the official forums for developing the game ?

The Forums are very useful. Its great to see so many of the Runescape community interacting, helping each other and informing us of anything that they have found.

Our thanks to Mod TomD for his time.
