Recently, there have been some issues going around in the Village. People flaming each other, and a few viruses going around. However, it seems this is not the most severe problem. Why does it seem that everyone here sucks up to the mods, and just disses everyone else? That really has to make you think.
Like everyone else, when you first set foot upon Runevillage, the first thing you want to do is become a mod. I know we've all wanted it at one point or another. But why do we want this job? We don't get paid or anything for doing the Villager work, and they don't get paid for modding forums. It's a huge job that these guys do, for completely free! Why do they do this? Why do you idol them?
The Village, of course, is supoosed to be somewhere to go to escape. Hence the saying: "Where Runescapers Escape. So, why is it that we want to escape from Runescape, but to post nonsense to become a mod. But a mod doesn't need to be popular... But isn't that why we WANT to be a mod?
When I asked Thyker if he would like being a mod, he said DURH. Then I asked him why would he take on such a huge responsibility. At first when I asked why, he said that mods get a lot of respect. He also wants to know what goes on in those secret chat discussions. After I asked him that question, he must have thought a little more, and responded with "It's hard to explain why i really want to actually."
Now not to pick on him, but is it that he wants something more then what he has? Does he come here to be a mod? Some don't come here just to be popular. But, as a mod, you do get respect, or one click of a button can take care of that person, but, is there something else you get with it.
Popularity
Popularity, of course, is a big thing at schools. But why in the heck do you want to be popular, or known by many, on the internet? This brings me into things called Parties. Now i have to wonder why some people like Applequest hosts these huge parties that everyone goes to. I mean, is it for popularity, or do you TRULY want to help people have fun when you host a party?
I asked Petrenks a few questions that had much to deal with this. I asked him why he hosts so many parties. He replied that he can help the villagers all around, help people, and be nice. But is there something else that you want? Popularity? Everyone thinks that if they don't post, they don't become popular, and if they're not popular, they cant become a mod. SPAM! So then we have clutter, and we need new mods.
But then again, you don't need posts to be mod, and you don't need popularity, you need GOOD QUALITY posts that show you know what's going on. Meepster, for example, was modded at a very low post count . So my questions to all you mod hopefuls, or even legend hopefuls, is WHY? What makes you think that you should become a mod? Do you think that you could help the village?
Now, some of you people out there might think "Man, this guy is just mad and taking it out." No, i'm not. I'm mad of course, because some people were saying things not needed thinking people create usergroups just to mod something. Is that true? Did Ozzie Bond create through hard work the RSC Villager just to mod something? Of course not. But everyone thinks that they should be mod.
So face reality guys. Most of you want to be mod because you want a combination of one or more of these three things:
A) To be known
B) To be popular
C) To feel you have power.
Now, I myself of course want to be mod, but i'm grateful of what I have. I don't care if anyone knows me or I just seem to leak through. I don't care if everyone wants to be me, or everyone wants me to be the next Kickflip. And i definitely don't care if i rule the world, or am a slave to the mightiest king. All I want is everyone to stop sucking up to just the mods. Imagine if you were one person that you just through away in your path to conquering. Flaming is horrible thing, and it shouldn't be done. You flame people that get in your way, and practialy kiss the mods feet. You do this to become one of them.
That is despicable. What i want you to do this month, as it's Valentine's Day on the 14th, is I want you to be nice to all your fellow users. There are a few of you that have got into a routine.

If the village can have everyone that's been here over a week to not get a warning for flaming, spamming, or any other reason, I personally will do something in which everyone gets a benefit. I can pull some amazing things off if I have the motivation. So, go do good in the village, and save the flame for the fire.
