Bet You Didn't Know... 5!

Hey guys, I apologize for sending this out so late. I know this is the second time I have done this, and I want you all to know that I deeply and sincerely apologize for doing this again and any problems caused by my posting the story late. Thank you.

Hey y'all! This month's BYDK features the Apollo 13, even more wacky words, human anatomy, cheese, and oceanic trivia. As an added bonus, they are OMG ordered! Hope you like it!

  1. Apollo 13's accident that crippled the mission occurred on April 13. The mission started on April 11 at 1300 hours.
  2. To achieve the effects of weightlessness, the crew of the movie, Apollo 13 flew in a special airplane that enabled them to be weightless for 30 seconds, plus or minus ten.
  3. In the Apollo 13 movie, many critics criticized the scene where Marylin Lovell drops her wedding ring in the shower and it goes down the drain as unnecessary dramatization. According to Jim Lovell, this actually did happen - except she was able to recover the ring after it went down the drain.
  4. Dumbledore - A type of bee.
  5. Qunicunx - Five objects arranged accordingly so that four are at the corners of a square or rectangle, and the fifth is at its center.
  6. Autophoby - Fear of referring to yourself. "I" and "me" are big no-nos. Elmo and Gollum are good examples.
  7. Colologist - A practical joker.
  8. Digitigradient- To walk on your toes.
  9. Nudiustertian- The day before yesterday.
  10. Slidikins!- An expression meaning "By God's eyelids." I don't know what it means either.
  11. When I pick my toenails and smell my fingers, they smell like Flavor Blasted Goldfish.
  12. "Gray's Anatomy" is a medical book on human anatomy and is praised as one of the most complete and concise medical textbooks ever written. This is where the medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" got its name.
  13. It is possible to live without your stomach.
  14. A "hollister" is a bag in which the feces of cadavers are stored. A friend in the medical business told me this.
  15. The mass of a heart is generally 250-350 grams. A diseased heart can weigh up to a kilogram due to hypertrophy.
  16. The pH of gastric acid in humans is generally between 2 and 3. The pH of stomach acid in dogs and cats is generally between 1 and 2.
  17. Cheese actually does increase flatulence.
  18. The abyssal plains are areas at the very bottom of the ocean (5 miles+) that are entirely flat and encompass tens of thousands of miles of ocean floor. Some are entirely devoid of life.
  19. The Sargasso Sea is an extremely salty area near the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It is mostly devoid of life except for an extremely large and unusual quantity of Sargassum seaweed and the American Eel. There is little to no wind in the area and is also a part of the Bermuda Triangle, which it gains some infamy for and has been accredited to several major wrecks.
  20. In a vacuum, water is able to travel 33 feet up a tube.
  21. The "triple point" is a point of pressure and temperature where all three phases of a substance can coexist in thermodynamic equilibrium. The triple point of water is exactly 273.16 degrees Kelvin, or 0.01 degrees Celsius and 611.73 degrees Pascals. This ideal mixture is approximately the combination that occurs at 100% humidity at sea level and the freezing point of water.
  22. Pure water is entirely tasteless.
  23. Water, Bismuth, Gallium, and Germanium are the only known substances whose solid form is less dense than its liquid form.
  24. The Bay of Fundy holds the world record for the largest tidal range (difference between water levels at high and low tide) - 21.8 meters, or roughly 65.6-66.5 feet.

  25. And finally...

  26. According to The Ocean Almanac by Robert Hendrickson:

An entry in the New York Files of the Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company, which has one of the largest archives on marine disasters in the world:

    "Noah's Ark.
    Built in 2448 BC.
Gopher wood, pitchd within and without.
    Length, 300 cubits.
    Width, 50 cubits.
    Height, 30 cubits.
    Three decks.
    Cattle carrier.
    Owner: Noah and sons.
Last reported stranded on Mount Ararat."
