Interview with Whydidijoin
Well, I had an interesting interview with a certain Whydidijoin.
But he seems to not like his question...
- How old are you?
Currently 17. Though on May 25th, I'll be 18 and an adult! ^_^
- How did you hear about RuneVillage?
I really don't remember too well. I'm pretty sure that I was just looking for a Fansite Forum because I was annoyed with the official RuneScape ones, so I googled and asked around. I'm pretty sure I checked out RuneHQ, RS Bits & Bytes and, of course RuneVillage. I liked RuneVillage's unique forum skin, layout, and the fact that it didn't have sub forums (EVILNESS!), so after a few months of browsing, I finally registered.
Couldn't be happier that I did. Only wish I'd done it sooner.
- What is your favorite forum?
RuneVillage News and Announcements. Exciting and interesting threads come and go from other forums, but every time something is posted in RuneVillage News and Announcements, you know it'll be good.
Though other than that, I'd probably have to go with one of the General forums. General Chat, General Pictures and General Discussion. Or Legends Discussion. When it's active, it's so crazy in there.
- How long do you spend on Runevillage or doing something for Runevillage on average each day?
Um, it really depends on a lot. Time of the year, stuff going on in real life, whether I'm doing things with friends, etc.
Lately, I've found the time for at least two to three hours each day. To a maximum of... way too much.
- How did you feel when you were chosen to become a mod?
Really excited, duh!
It's always nice to hear that you're appreciated and trusted.
- How did you feel when you were chosen to be Staff?
Probably equally, if not more excited than when I became Moderator actually. Getting the Staff rank was huge to me. It was my first rank, and that always counts for something, especially when so few people have it.
- How did you feel when you were chosen to be legend?
I was probably least excited about this one of the three, but it was still nice. I already had the Staff rank at that time, so the only new thing I got was the Legends Discussion Forum. I also got it in a time when I was really swamped with real life stuff, and I didn't think I deserved it all that much, as I had only been around for a year or so.
It was still exciting though, and it's cool to be one of only two or three 'Stagends' (Copyright Whydidijoin 2007).
- Which did you prefer?
Forum Mod.
I like handling things by myself. Sometimes that's a bad thing, but I've always been that way. Now I can finally take care of problems that arise by myself. Though I can see, even already, that it is a lot of work. I also get to see a more relaxed side to some Moderators, Admins and Hiker. It's refreshing to see that they're more human than some people think.
Plus, the cards are really pretty colours.
- Do you miss your Yellow? Or Cyan?
I was only yellow for a day or so. Once I got Legend, I got Apple to set my rank to Legend (Because Legend Rank > Staff Rank), and set my Who Is Online? colour to Cyan (Because Staff colour > Legend colour).
And yes, I do miss that. I think Legend is the best looking rank on the site, and I think Cyan is the best looking Who Is Online? colour, so I obviously miss it. I think Cyan suited my name better, and I was unique then. As far as I know, I'm the only one that has had a Legend rank and Staff colour at the same time. Cool
- So why exactly did you join?
Hahahahahahaha!
- Who is your best friend on RV?
Wow. There's a question and a half. I'm lucky to have many great friends. In fact, there are multiple friends, that if they left, I'd consider leaving as well.
If I had to choose somebody, probably Gamestar. He helped me and listened to me when I had frustrations on RuneVillage. He's kind, helpful, trustworthy and incredibly funny. There isn't much that I would have trouble telling him. He's the kind of guy that I could see myself being really good friends with in real life. That's rare on the internet. I just wish I had the chance to talk with him more.
- Who do you idolize on Runevillage?
I look up to different people for different things. We have some great people on this site.
Again, if I had to choose one, I'd probably say Glodenox. He's incredibly knowledgeable, mature, hard-working and more dedicated to this site than a large majority of the Villagers realize. And he's been this dedicated for as long as I can remember. Without Glodenox, I'd hate to think where this site would be.
- What was your favorite moment on RV?
It's hard to pick one. Probably getting my Staff rank, followed closely if not equaled by getting Mod. The RuneVillage Birthday Bash that I helped host was a lot of fun too, though that's more of an RuneScape moment I guess.
- Do you like Pie?
Of course! Who doesn't like pie!? I prefer the colder ones though. Lemon Merange is my favourite.
- Has becoming a mod changed your personality?
Eh, not really. It's obviously going to make you watch what you say in public a little more, and it may make you seem a little tougher just because you have to enforce the rules on your friends sometimes, but I like to think that I am and will be the same person. I'll still joke around. I'll still help people. I'll still speak up when I disagree with something.
I don't think you really can change your personality. At least the core things. You can only mask certain parts of it, and hopefully I'll never do that.
- How long have you been playing RS?
Hmm, I actually don't remember anymore.
I think it was really soon after RuneScape 2 launched, so probably somewhere around three years.
- Do you still play?
Yes and no. I haven't officially quit, and I hope to get back to playing RuneScape again consistently, but I haven't had the time to play very much for a while.
- Whats your favorite skill? Why?
I really like Farming. I'm not too sure why, but during the first week after it came out, I did it non-stop. I haven't done it as much lately, but that week was one of my best weeks of RuneScape ever.
I guess I like that it's a bit more realistic than the other skills. It's one you have to enjoy. You can't power-train very easily.
- What is your favorite mini game in RuneScape?
Castle Wars.
- Do you play any sports?
I play Basketball with my friends sometimes, and on rare occasions I've played road Hockey, but I don't have the time or energy to play any organized sports anymore.
I used to play Baseball, which was fun, but they stopped that league quite a while back. I may look into joining something once I'm in University.
- What is your favourite hobby?
I dunno, I just seem to do random things. If I actually have a hobby, I can't think of one right now.
- Do you have a favorite movie?
Hehe, I'm a movie fanatic. I'm building a collection.
It's near impossible to pick a favourite. I'm mostly a Comedy guy, but I like some movies in all genres. Of the movies I have, the ones that stand out the most as my favourites are Rat Race, Independence Day, and the James Bond movies. Though, if I had to pick, I'd probably have to go with the Star Wars movies. I'm a Star Wars nerd.
- Describe the average Runevillager.
Funny, helpful, but not active enough.
- What is your favorite book?
I don't read much anymore unfortunately. High School kinda sucks the fun out of it.
When I was younger, I used to love the "Screech Owls" series. I'll actually still read them sometimes when I'm bored. I'm still a kid at heart.
- Who has the most spirit in your eyes on RV?
Mmm, hard question. The first person that came to mind though is A5Chow.
She very rarely, if ever, has anything negative to say about RuneVillage or another Villager. She has done a lot for the Site; she always seems to be helping somebody, and she always seems to have a smile while doing it.
I know there are some other people with those characteristics, but it's rare to come by, and A5Chow has that personality where you would really have to try to be mad at her.

- Would you ever prefer being a different postition on the forums?
I wouldn't say no to Assistant Site Admin, if that's what you're asking.
Seriously though, being the person who likes to get involved and do things myself, yeah, sometimes I do wish that, but we are lucky to have some great people in the Staff ranks at RuneVillage. They do a great job, and if sometime they don't, we are privileged to have the best, most understanding and most sensible Site Admin on any fansite.
- Do you have any other responsibilities on RV?
Do I ever... Way too many. That's the bad part of liking to handle things myself.
I'm part of the Project Team, RuneVillage Quiz, Manager of the Database Team, Guide Coder, Guide Editor, Assistant Head of HTML and Web Design for The Villager, Manager of the Signature of the Week Competition, Zulu Captain (Until late May at which point I'm resigning- JOIN THE RVA!), and now a Forum Moderator.
Though not everything is active currently, and I'm not active in everything that is active. In fact, I'm currently focusing primarily on the Databases, Modding, and soon to be the SoTW again. Probably the thing I miss doing the most is Guide Coding though. It started me on my path to where I am now, and I'd like to eventually learn more advanced coding, but I unfortunately haven't had the time to do anything in there for quite some time.
Hopefully I'll be able to get back to some more of these things in the summer.
