Behind the Villager (TheAmericanIdiot)

Thyross: Does Gamestar's whip hurt?
TheAmericanIdiot: Oh boy, it sure does. I've still got the whip marks from the last time he went on a rampage. Never again will I need to be reminded that there are only two 'N's in Banana.

T: What exactly do you do for the Villager?
TAI: I sit in the back and pretend that I'm working.
Well, that's not entirely true. I've been editing for the Villager for a little over a year now, and I've recently started coding as well. However, I was promoted to the Head Editor position last month. Basically, I get to read every article before it comes out and fix the horrendous grammar/spelling errors that may or may not exist.

Essentially, the title is a glorified term for Professional Reader.

T: Do you enjoy your position?
TAI: As of yet, I've had to do absolutely nothing with the position. I'll technically start working at the end of this month, just before the release of the July Villager.

So, to answer the question, it's great! However, that might change when Gamestar actually makes me work.

T: Excluding Gamestar and Knux, who's your favorite villager employee?
TAI: Hmmm... This is a toughie. I mean, they're all so terrible, it's hard to pick one that's less terrible than the others.

In all seriousness, I'm not actually sure. There are many Villager workers that I've never talked with before, so I can't quite pick based on a personality level. I'm sure there are some great characters out there that I've yet to meet.

Of the one's that I've talked to, it might just be a toss-up between Goten and Whydidijoin. They're both tremendously funny, as well as hard workers. Goten has put so much effort into his comics; they're amazing. He's also drawn (hehe, pun) a bunch of new artists into the Villager. Why is cool too. After all, he is the Assistant Head of HTML and Web Design. Aaand he likes Sneep. Good enough for me.

T: How long have you been with the Villager?
TAI: Ugh... Lemme check my Inbox...

According to my messages, I've been in the Villager since June 24th, 2006 at 9:45 AM EST. Of course, Trendy happened to forget to add me to the usergroup at this time, but he finally gave me access four days later.

T: What is your favorite part of the Villager?
TAI: Well, I've always enjoyed Jaron's Spot the Error section; I've only been able to figure out about half of the eleven so far.

The interviews are pretty cool too; it's nice to know a little more about the other Villagers. I'm a big fan of the comics as well. They're always good for a chuckle or two.

T: How much has changed since Gamestar and Knux have taken over?
TAI: The nice, orderly environment we once had has now turned to anarchy. Other than that, nothing much.

Well, that's not entirely true either. Gamestar has instituted new standards for writing articles, mostly dealing with formatting. There are also new standards for coding the articles. It makes the code a little easier to read and a tad more organized.

However, the editing process has stayed fairly static. I s'pose that's because English never really changes.

T: Do you miss Frogger or TrendyHaz?
TAI: Well, Frogger has been gone for quite some time now; it was only recently that it was official. The effects of his leaving aren't as apparent now as they were when he originally left.

And I'm starting to miss Trendy a lot. He rarely used his whip on the editors. On the rare occasions that he did, he only used one whip, whereas Gamestar uses three barbed-wire whips.

In all seriousness, I do miss Trendy. He was a good Editor in Chief, and I'm hoping that Gamestar will carry that legacy on.

T: If you could, would you change the layout of the Villager? If so what would you do to it?
TAI: I'm not too keen about changing the Villager's layout. As far as I'm concerned, it's great. The color's work well together, and the fonts seem perfect for the publication. There is one thing I'd like to change, and that's the width of the article-space. The width is fine normally, but it's too small for the comics. Either shrink the comics or biggerize the box.

T: On an ending note, what’s your favorite movie?
TAI: There are so many good movies out there, which makes it hard to pick. My all time favorite would most likely be Mystery Men. I've probably watched that movie some one hundred times in my life. And it never seems to get old.
