How Homeless People can Save the World

Homeless people, sometimes referred to as unkind names such as ‘tramps’. Most people dislike them; some people even abuse them, both verbally and physically, and others go out of their way to completely and utterly avoid them. Occasionally, a person, thinking they are doing a good deed, gives money to one. This isn’t entirely a righteous thing, as the majority of ‘homeless’ people are in that state due to a drug or alcohol problem. The money will just go towards feeding that addiction.

But homeless people aren’t all bad. There are some ‘rough sleepers', as they are also known, who don’t take drugs or drink alcohol but choose to be homeless for a variety of reasons. The most common type is the Eco-Tramp, as they call themselves. They refrain from living in a house, as they don't believe in it. They are extremely eco-friendly and are against the building of houses, as it is a waste of natural resources; things inside give off harmful gases and use up electricity and water. These are good people who, in a way, are trying to ‘save the world’.

Let us introduce you to Dave, a young man twenty four years of age who, out of his own choice, resides on the streets. Before you judge him or call him a ‘tramp’ or worse, consider his reasons. Dave doesn’t need money to pay for electricity or other commodities. Any food he needs can be found in the dustbins of the various coffee outlets, where the pre-wrapped sandwiches almost always hit the spot. Dave has no carbon footprint and, unlike your average person on the streets, actually cares about other people and their lives. In fact, it could be said that Dave ‘saves people’s lives’

Dave is, effectively, a Super Tramp. On numerous occasions, he has been there to prevent muggings and fatal injuries from knives carriec by the gangs roaming the streets near where he sleeps. In total, it is thought that he has been involved in the prevention of seventeen muggings, getting help after one of the victims was stabbed brutally which ended up saving her life, and helping elderly women cross the busy roads of London. He is an icon in the area; on a good day, one of the people he has helped in the past will come by and buy him drinks or food for the day. When he watched people travelling to work, he has been known to help repair bike punctures, although he refuses to help people with car problems, as he is against pollution.

Some homeless people are a stain on the environmental sheet of the world’s metaphorical bed, while a few, such as Dave, are the clean pillow which helps make the world comfortable. Homeless people can Save the World.
