Break-In at the Villager

It was dark and dreary night. The Villager offices were empty and hiker was asleep in his office. The123king was on guard duty tonight and was enjoying a cup of coffee while he strolled around the building. The village cat, Roger, was purring loudly on top of a filing cabinet. A mouse scuttled across the floor. Roger payed no attention.

Outside, a dark figure lurked in the shadows. He dropped a half-eaten donut and put down a bottle. He sized up the height of the Villager offices, two stories tall, and pulled on a balaclava. A white van pulled up outside and three people jumped out of the back. Two in black boiler suits, like the mysterious figure facing them, and one in a ridiculous lava-colored costume.
“Tornado, did you have to bring that ridiculous suit?” the mysterious figure said. The other two who came out the van tutted and shook their heads.

The123king was staring out the window. “Rain, why don’t you come back tomorrow? At least I get a lift home tomorrow…”

The 4 figures creep behind the Villager offices. Tornado Lava pulls out a grapple and rope and chucks it onto the roof. “Seems secure boss!”
The mysterious figures start to climb the rope onto the roof.
“Remember Tornado, keep a look out and yell if you see anyone.”
“Will do boss, stay safe!” Tornado lava replies.

Roger scampered off of the filing cabinet, sending a vase of roses and some ban reports flying. The123king stares off after the cat in bewilderment. There are footsteps, footsteps on the roof. “Halley, you reading? I think I’m not alone.” The123king yelled into a walkie-talkie.
“Roger that, what’s happening?” Halley replied in a crackly voice.
“There’s somebody on the roof.”
“Are you su-” The walkie-talkie went silent.

“Right, that’s the communications down. 8-ball, got that hatch open yet?” the first figure whispered to one of the others.
“I'm on it. Just a moment... there we go,” he replied.
“Right, you two first, but remember - we’re in the vent shafts.”
“5-ball, wait! Got the wire cutters?” the first figure replied.
“Of course Cue-ball,” 5-ball replied.

The123king went to Gamestar’s liquor cabinet. “He’s gonna kill me…”
He downed 2 straight gins and proceeded to the first floor.

The 3 burglars, 5-ball, 8-ball and Cue-ball, were clambering through the ventilation ducts. They creaked and groaned under the strain. Cue-ball shredded his trousers on a bolt, leaving his leg bleeding across the ducts. Finally they find a room and start cracking off the vent cover…

“What’s that noise? Halley, I believe we have burglars, over!” The123king yells into the walkie-talkie. Silence. The123king decides the best way to deal with this is to find out what the noise was… He picks up a shotgun conveniently placed behind a filing cabinet and proceeds down the corridor…

"Ok you two, it must be in here somewhere. 5, you take those filing cabinets. 8, you take the others. I’ll take the desk,” Cue-ball whispers to the others as he opens up Gamestar’s desk and starts rooting through the paper work.
“New ed-in-chief certificate, hiker’s autograph, letter from hiker… where is it?”
“Boss, I’ve got some-” 5-ball paused.
“GET DOWN WITH YOUR HANDS UP!”
“That doesn’t work…” Cue-ball replied to The123king.
“Shut up Donut Juice!”
“How’d you know it was me?”
“The crumbs gave you away,” The123king replied. After removing each burglar’s balaclava, the team was revealed to be Donut Juice, Milo and Jaron.

“So why’d you do it?” The123king asked the group, now tied to chairs.
“We were looking for the file!” Jaron and Milo replied.
“What file?”
“Why Whydidijoin joined of course!” Donut spat in The123king’s face.
“It’s not in here.”
“You sure?” The group all replied. “We burgled the Staff Lounge and were about to break into the Admin Lounge if it wasn’t here!”
“Well I have no idea where it is. If you’re that desperate for it, go ask Whydidijoin himself.” The123king said while he untied the trio. “Now you three run along and take Tornado Lava with you. He looks soaked.”

To be continued…
