Oh Freddled Gruntbuggly

Oh freddled gruntbuggly,
Thy micturations are to me
As plurdled gabbleblotchits
On a lurgid bee
That mordiously hath bitled out
Its earted jurtles
Into a rancid festering [drowned out by moaning and screaming]
Now the jurpling slayjid agrocrustles
Are slurping hagrilly up the axlegrurts
And living glupules frart and slipulate
Like jowling meated liverslime
Groop, I implore thee, my foonting turlingdromes
And hooptiously drangle me
With crinkly bindlewurdles,
Or else I shall rend thee in the gobberwarts with my blurglecruncheon
See if I don't.

In this short essay I will be discussing the literary effects in the poem “Oh freddled gruntbuggly”. This poem is a very good example of the literary values of Vogon poetry. Vogon poetry is well known as the 3rd worst poetry in the universe, but this poem cannot be considered among such terrible works of literature, for it has literary qualities comparable to the best pieces ever written.
The literary effects in this poem are abundant and effective. “And living glupules frart and slipulate” has some very effective verb use with an interesting use of the word “frart”. This example is a very good one because the word “frart” is actually very uncommon in Vogon poetry and to see an example in “Oh freddled gruntbuggly” is very interesting.
This poem also has very effective use of metaphors and similes as seen in the line “Groop, I implore thee, my foonting turlingdromes”. Turlingdromes, as a vegetative entity, commonly found on planet vogsphere, cannot “foont,” thus emphasizing this lovely piece of metaphorical language.
Overall, one cannot deny that at least some effective literary effects are employed in this piece. Therefore, it cannot be compared to the third worst type of poetry known to man, and if you don’t like it, you can shove it up your frangwattle and grurp all day long.
