Battle for the Palace of Shadows (Elven Side) Pt. 2

Inside the chamber of the High Elven Congress, all 13 leaders were seated. The congress had always held the belief that 13 was the most democratic number as not only did it allow input from every level of the elven community, but also left space for the High Sorceror of the Elves and the President of the Elven Pastures. Having 13 members also meant that every vote would carry a majority and therefore left the full power in no single person. The elves had always resented how other nations, such as their ex-allies (and new enemies) the goblins, felt the need for one ruler. The discussion was a simple one: how to approach the now-crucial first attack on the goblins. The main argument had been that crossing the swamp would leave the Elven Army out in the open and, with the goblins having the cover of the trees, they would not stand a chance with an open attack. Sat in silence at the head of the table was Isfalrial - the current President of the Elven Pastures. He had said no more than two words throughout the meeting, sitting in the background and absorbing information from everyone else. Isfalrial was a highly respected elf, having been credited with being the main force behind the defeat of the dwarves when they launched their attack on the Palace of Shadows. He raised one hand and all conversation in the room stopped, respect for the aged elf personified. As Isfalrial looked around the room he knew that every elf before him hung on his words. As he relayed his plan of waiting for night to fall before attacking, nods of agreement flew in all directions. He continued to explain that the first attack should not be against the Tower itself but rather against the goblins as only the victorious race could truly harness the power of the Tower. The first priority would be a swift attack of one squad to burn down the forest that protected and hid the goblins. One elf, the young Leader of the Elven Merchants, called upon a vote. Isfalrials plan was accepted both instantly and unanimously.
Within the Elven Pastures news of the impending attack spread quickly, and the elves hurried to gather armour, bows, arrows and crossbows. Although the elves were not known to be a nation of war-mongerors, they did have a deep sense of pride for their race and no elf was shy to admit their willingness to fight and die to protect and honour the name of elf.
