The Dwarf’s Journey : Part Five |
| The mountain path was steep. The trolls meandered up it as if it was a flat field, but Kringos was struggling. Tangot had offered to carry him but his pride kept him from accepting. He painfully walked on, several feet behind the trolls. He kept his axe in one hand at all times, wary of an ambush which could occur at any time. His thoughts kept returning to the night before, when he overheard one of the trolls planning with a goblin to betray him. Lost in his thoughts, Kringos did not pay much attention to his surroundings until he suddenly walked into a rock. Confused by the fact that a rock had suddenly appeared between him and the trolls he looked up, only to discover that it was not a rock, but rather the boulderous backside of Granden. The trio of trolls had stopped in their tracks. “Why have you stopped?” Kringos asked, looking up at Tangot. Tangot ignored the question, swinging his fist around and squarely connecting with the face of Gondra. She stumbled backwards and collapsed into Granden's arms, leaving him momentarily defenseless. Tangot followed his punch with a powerful kick, hitting the other male troll’s abdomen. The sound of the kick was deafening, like two cliffs crashing into each other at great speed. Before he could get ready to defend himself from the onslaught, the chief troll grabbed Kringos in his colossal fist and took off running. “So you’re the traitor!” Kringos said, before Tangot’s thumb covered his mouth and gagged him. “Wrong,” Tangot said, slightly out of breath. “Gondra is, but I could not persuade Granden to believe me, so I had to save you.” The pair of them had reached the other side of the mountain, and were nearing the troll encampment. It was almost in sight when Tangot stopped and went off of the path, heading towards a cave. He pulled a bush in front of it to provide them with some cover. “Now what?” The dwarf asked, setting his axe on the ground. “We wait,” Tangot replied. “Wait for what?” Kringos wondered. “You’ll see.” |
