RuneVillage Thoughts

Runevillage - A place we all love. A community that works together to achive the impossible. This month we found out what several people think of the village. What helps it? What hinders it? Here are the views of some well known people of the village.

Enjoy.

1. Runevillage has grown so much over the years. What do you think has made it successful in its development?

Meepster - I think we have to first give credit to our loyal Administrators, Moderators, and users who have stayed with us during times of good and bad. Without their help behind the scenes, RuneVillage would most certainly fall apart.

Flummbullen - The Villagers. Most of them want to help the site get better, not just use it. Thanks to everyone who helps, we get better and better.

Chatmasta - I think it was mainly hiker. Hiker got a lot of people to come here. He was lucky because they were great people, and spread the URL all over the place. A snowball effect brought us to where we are now.

Insomniac - It was one of the earlier Runescape help sites I suppose... Not only for RS, but to discuss real life issues which I think made it more popular and people who don't play RS can come here anyway. Also down to the great staff here that have made RV so special.

2. Do you feel that Runevillage has helped you in life? If so, how?

Meepster - Yes, I do think so, in a greater way than I'll ever be able to understand. I met my dear Hiroshi Neko via this very website and I have also found a truly great friend in Silverfox. I had the great fortune of meeting the two over this summer and it was certainly an experience I'll never forget. I have met many friends here, people I am forever in debt to for their compassion and caring. It's certainly changed my life.

Flummbullen - Absolutly, for example, not everyone knows people all around the world. And since English isn't my main language, Runescape and RuneVillage has helped to improve it greatly. I wouldn't be where I am today without all my friends and especially Cathrine. If it wasn't for the Village where I met most of them.

Chatmasta - Runevillage has literally changed my course of life. Before, computers never totally interested me. Runevillage is what introduced me to graphics.

When I got to be friends with blade 1 2 9 (jacobe) and learned he was launching a site with forums, I immediately helped him. This got me interested in hacking (modifying) phpBB. I had no idea what phpBB was, so I couldn't remember the name of it one day. I went to www.php.com. Nothing good. (This was on December 24th of last year.) Later on, Hiker introduced me to PHP. I have been learning PHP for the past 6 or 7 months now.

I used to want to be a professional baseball player (and I still definitely wouldn't mind that) but now what interests me more is computers. I now want to go to MIT for 4 years for computer science for two full years and then game design for the next two.

This, of course, will aid me in getting a job that has to do with computers and has awesome pay.
Thus, Runevillage has changed the course of my life.

Most importantly, though, I have had many good experiences and Runevillage has filled me with knowledge.

Insomniac - Yes it has. It's a place where I can post things that are more personal, where I might feel uncomfortable in real life. But here I can and there's always nice people there to help with real life problems.

3. What do you think attracts people to the village? They have a handful of Runescape fan sites to choose from.

Meepster - Well, RuneVillage is a unique place, at least for me. It's much more than a RuneScape fan site, certainly that is an integral part of its function, but I do not see RuneVillage as a website solely dedicated to the game. It's a gathering place for people to talk and share bits and pieces of themselves with a generally accepting public.

Flummbullen - Well, we might not have the most guides, but the ones we have surely are among the best. And once they sign up at the forums, the friendly atmosphere has them. Sure, not everyone is a perfect angel, but we're like a family, and no family life is a dance on roses.

Chatmasta - I think people are mainly attracted to Runevillage by the loose rules, but the safe and almost harmless environment. This is definitely because of the awesome staff we have here.
Of course, the members own, too.

Insomniac - I think that the fact that it's not just a RS forum. A lot of active members would have left if it was only for RS. The fact that it's for discussing a wide range of topics means that it appeals to more. The site has great people running it and posting on it and is always being updated so I guess that makes it rise above the rest.

4. Runevillage doesn’t just run by itself. We have a hard working bunch of staff making the village a better place for everybody. Do you have anything to say to these people?

Meepster - Thank you. All of you, every single one of you. RuneVillage would fall like the House of Usher without such dedicated people.

Flummbullen - Thank you! There isn't much more to say really, they do a great job, and it would be great if people thanked them when they do something good instead of just whinning when something bad happens. A happy PM can do more than you think.

Chatmasta - We r0x0rz y0r s0x0rz!

Insomniac - I agree that the staff here are great, and were the right choices. Keep it up guys/girls! you're doing great!

5. Last question. How do you feel towards other villagers? Do you look upon them as just other people or do you value them as good friends whom you can rely on?

Meepster - I have a close group of friends at RuneVillage that I would trust with my life and then those I do not know as well but I have great respect for. I think anyone who is willing to put up with my insanity is a worthy friend!

Flummbullen - It's hard to have an opinion on someone you don't really know. But I respect everyone even if I don't agree with them. As Voltaire once said: "I totally disagree with everything you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it." But yah, I think the "average Villager" is a good and trustworthy player, but of course, there are bad eggs out there too.

Chatmasta - I value the staff as good friends that I can rely on. The same goes to a select few normal members. Of course, I only say that because there is a minority of normal members I know really well. If I knew them better then the chances are I would be able to rely on them. I know this because of all the amazing villagers we have here.

Insomniac - There are a lot of villagers I feel I get along with. It's great getting to know them as friends, everyone here is so nice, it's the best place to make new friends. I can definitely rely on some of them, it's almost like I know them in real life.

Chatmasta - One last thing....
WE LOVE YOU HIKER!!!!!!!!!!
