The Dragon Threat Parts 31 - 40

This is it guys! The final parts of The Dragon Threat Book 1: The Summer of the Flame!

What will our hero's see this time? Crandor Island, for sure...

Part 31: The Voyage Begins
Jamie, Stip, and Rangerbane arrived back at Draynor, all the map pieces in hand. They stepped into Ned's Shack.

"Huh... is that... yes!" Ned said. "The map to CRANDOR! Wahh hoo! Finally, a new island to sail to, and a purpose to do it! Wahh hoo!"

Soon, the group (along with Ned) had arrived at Port Sarim and were on Ned's ship. "Yahoo! Time to sail! Crandor, due south!" And so the ship was heading toward Crandor Island. But, no voyage in a story in complete without a storm that eventually becomes a shipwreck.

"Storm off the port-bow!" Jamie yelled. A huge typhoon lifted the ship up into the air. The last thing Jamie saw was the blackness of a cannon.

Part 32: Shipwrecked!
Jamie woke up with a big bump on his head, and lying underneath a cannon. "Huh?" he said. "Last thing I remember was hitting my head on this cannon in a storm... where are we...?"

"Where you want to be! This IS Crandor!" a voice said. Jamie turned to see Ned the sailor on the shore piling up the broken wood...

"Land!" Jamie realized. He jumped onto the beach and looked around. The ship was totally wrecked. Wood was everywhere on the beach, in piles (because Ned was piling it). He also saw banana plants flocking the beach. "Where are Stip and Rangerbane?"

"Your friends?" Ned said. "They are still somewhere on the boat, unconscious. You should try to wake 'em... why did this happen to my boat..."

Jamie ran back into the shipwreck, arms full of bananas. He found Rangerbane hanging by his ankle on (what used to be) the sail. Jamie shook his dangling body. "Huh... where am I... huh? Bananas! Gimme one!" Rangerbane said, waking up. Jamie handed him a few bananas, got him down, and while Rangerbane helped Ned, Jamie looked for Stip. Stip was lying face down in the galley. Jamie kneeled before him and shook him awake.

"Huh... yellow? CHEESE! Is the yellow cheese!" Stip shouted.

"No... It's bananas..." Jamie replied.

"Aw..." The two walked onto the beach to find Ned and Rangerbane piling up the last of the wood.

"When you've done whatever you need to do," Ned explained. "We'll set fire to this here wood as a rescue signal. Those folks in Karamja ought to see the smoke."

"Thanks for uh... sacrificing your boat for us" Jamie said.

"Yes... I suppose there is reason for you to come here... by the way, what reason?" Ned solemnly asked. Jamie told the entire story. How he had wanted the Rune Plate, how someone was shooting him, how they figured out that the Cult and the Phoenix were assoiciated, and were using Elvarg as their Secret Weapon. "So... there really is reason." Ned realized. "The fate of many lives is dependant on you... but wouldn't have been smarter to tell the kings of Arsgainia and Misthallin?"

"Uh... why didn't I think of that..." Jamie mumbled.

"We should set up camp." Stip suggested. The group built a camp of some of the piled wood, and went to sleep.

Part 33: Crandor Island
In the morning, while Ned and Rangerbane stayed behind to keep watch on the pile of wood, Jamie and Stip began to accend the cliffs of Crandor. Soon enough, they came across some scorpions. "Hold on a sec..." Jamie said. One of the scorpions lunged its tail, and Jamie jumped it and sliced of the tail cleanly. But then, zombies lunged out of the earth and grabbed Stip. "Stip!" Jamie yelled.

"Don't... worry about... anything..." he struggled. "I'll.... catch up....later..."

As much as he hated to do it, Jamie continued without Stip. He soon came to a rope ladder going inside the island. Climbing down it, he found himself in a volcanic cave. He began to step quietly and cautiously deeper into the volcanic depths, scimitar gleaming. He found a very odd patch of wall. "Hmm... If I just push this..." Jamie pushed the wall, and it opened into a secret passage. He looked and saw.... "Karamja Volcano's Crater? Crandor and Karjama are connected! Who knew?" Suddenly, Jamie felt hot breath on his neck, and slimey drool flowing down his back. He turned and saw... not one but 3 lesser demons! "OMG!!!" He took a deep breath and calmed down. "If I just sneak by them..." he said, running past the demons as if they weren't there. Soon he came to see a large, rusty gate, that seemed like something BIG had been charging it. "I've found you... Elvarg..." He pushed the gate open and stepped inside.

Part 34: Elvarg
Slam! The rusty gate slammed behind Jamie as he cautiously stepped forward into the darkness. Suddenly from nowhere, a jet of flame shot through the darkness heating up the already boiling air, and creating a ton of light that broke through the darkness. In this new light Jamie looked up and finally saw it: Elvarg, the green dragon of Crandor Island. Seeing it's rough scales shine in it's own beautiful fire, and hearing it roar louder than the thundering of a stampeed, Jamie finally realized something. "I can't possibly kill this thing..."

Elvarg charged toward him with the strength of a tank, and the speed of a lion. Jamie sprinted back to the rusty gate that led him into this nightmare and tugged on it to make it open. It was locked. He turned just in time to see the scales on Elvarg's tail ram into his head, sending him flying and half-conscious. Jamie rammed into the cavern wall coughing up blood all over his chain mail.

Elvarg did not hesitate to charge again, and bounded toward Jamie like a wild cat on a feeding frenzy. Jamie opened his bruised eyelids and jumped out of the way just before Elvarg hit the wall were Jamie had been only moments before causing vibrations which dropped large rocks on Elvarg's scaly head. Jamie smiled and put his sword in his sheath and hung his shield on his back. He pulled off his bloody chainmail and shirt, then put his chainmail back onto his bare skin and held his blood-stained shirt in front of him and waved it like a bull-fighter's red flag. As Elvarg recovered from its nasty blow to the head, Jamie shouted into the caveren, "Ole! Ole!"

Like a bull, Elvarg charged harder at the sight of the red 'flag', and bounded once again toward Jamie, horns raised like a bull as well. As Elvarg was about to ram into him, Jamie stepped aside allowing Elvarg to hit the wall again vibrating the ground. Jamie was still weak, and so he couldn't stand up while the earth trembled underneath him. Falling to the brown and rocky ground and cutting his bare shoulder, he proved a easy target to Elvarg who had recovered once again from the crash. Elvarg prepared to cook Jamie with his flame, raising his head and filling his mouth with a flame that Jamie could feel the heat of, even down there on the ground. And so, with a devastating blow of dragon fire, Elvarg incerated Jamie.... at least that's what would've happened if Stip hadn't of come running through the large rusty gate.

Elvarg's flame died out of it's mouth as it thundered toward this new tresspasser, leaving the other wounded on the cold ground.

Part 35: Bustergod V.S. the Mage (and other matters)
Bustergod landed in the ashes that were once Zaff's Staff's. When he sat up in the blackened remains, he was sent flying by another Iban Blast... straight into a tree.

"You can't win, Were-Dragon!" The Cult mage said. "Look at you... that pitiful Rune Armour can't stand up to me! And you can't get near me with that poisoned dragon dagger!" The mage's mocking angered Bustergod, who pulled out his poisoned dragon dagger and ran toward his foe in the burnt Varrock Square. The mage yawned and stepped to the side at the last moment, while the dagger thrust through where his heart had been moments ago.

"Rgggh!" Bustergod roared. He took out of his pocket a mithril dagger and stabbed at the mage, who (expecting this) moved out of the way yawning. But, the mage did not expect Bustergod to toss his poison dagger... straight into the mage's heart. As the mage fell, Bustergod retrieved his dagger and ran toward Al Kharid, trying to beat the nightfall.

Soon he arrived at the desert city, and walked up to an adventurer wearing full rune (with the exeption of his medium helmet (because medium helms aren't counted as part of full rune)), who was also wielding a dragon long sword and wearing a sapphire necklace; a games necklace. "Hi there!" the adventurer greeted. "My name is Tahu1000, just call me Tahu. What can I do for you?"

"Listen," Bustergod whispered to Tahu. "You must go to the Duke of Lumbridge and ask him for an anti-dragon-breath shield. Then, you must return here and ask the gnome glider to fly you over head Crandor Island. If he refuses," Bustergod said, stuffing 10,000 gold pieces into Tahu's hands. "bribe him with this money, all of it if you have to, but if less... keep the change. When you are over head Crandor, you will see two holes. Drop the shield down the one that looks like a person, yet a dragon."

"Ok..." Tahu said. "But... why?"

"It's too long of a story, but just do it knowing that this could save the lives of a few men."

"Ok... I will! Ok, I'm off to Lumbridge! See you around!" Tahu hurried off toward Al Kharid Toll gate. Bustergod hurried back into the desert as night fell, and rose up as the scaly and strong, Chrome. As Chrome used instinct to fly for Crandor, Bustergod could not know that "See you around" would be the last words that he would hear from Tahu1000...

Part 36: Tahu's Mission
Tahu1000 arrived in Lumbridge just as night fell. He pounded up the steps to the Duke's room on the second floor. "Excuse me your majesty?"

"Hmm?" the Duke said, waking up from a peaceful slumber. "No, no, go away, I'm very busy!"

"You were sleeping though..." Tahu pointed out. "Btw, do you happen to have an anti-dragon-breath shield at your disposal?"

"Yes, but why would you need it?" the Duke wondered.

"I'm getting it for someone who says lives are at stake."

The Duke considered this. "Ok, here you go, save those lives!"

Tahu ran back to Al Kharid and found the Gnome Glider and it's pilot. He told of what he had to do, and that lives were at stake. "CRANDOR!?!?! ARE YOU MAD!?!?!" the gnome yelled. "But... if I was 5,000 coins richer maybe... and you need to swipe your membership card too... you know, taxes..." Tahu gave the gnome 5,000 of the 10,000 gold pieces that Bustergod gave him and swiped his membership card. "Next stop, CRANDOR!" Tahu and the gnome pilot took off the ground and were headed toward Crandor Island, anti-dragon-breath shield in hand.

Part 37: Unexpected Events
Stip saw Elvarg charge toward him, horns raised. Stip jumped out of the way, and for the 3rd or 4th time, Elvarg rammed into the cavern wall. Turning it's head, the dragon looked around. Stip was no where to be found. Little did Elvarg know, Stip was standing right next to it, invisible by the power of his purple Zaros robes. But, the use of these robes seemed to trigger the strength of Zaros who (as Stip said) possessed him. Zaros began to control Stip once again.
Pitiful dragon, he thought. It should be obeying me! Obey!

As Elvarg wondered where Stip/Zaros was, something came crashing through the roof of the cavern, waking Jamie from his painful slumber. "Who's... there...?" he thought aloud. "Chr....Chr....Chrome...?" It was Chrome who had broke through the top of the cavern, creating a hole shaped like a person, yet shaped like a dragon.

Chrome pushed a small voice out of his mouth. "U...grkillfg...no..vargy...u..no...kill...vargy!"

"Huh?" said the wounded Jamie. "Vargy? Hahahaha... wait a moment... was I just threatened? By a WERE-DRAGON! AHHHHHCKZOMFG!" He scrambled to his bloody feet and ran. Thus alerting Elvarg to him still being alive. Stip/Zaros however, appeared out of thin air.

"All you puny mortals, feel Zaros's power!" He aimed at Elvarg and shouted "ZAROS STRIKE!" A purple ball of energy formed at the tip of his smoke staff. Chrome saw this all though.

"U...NO...KILL...VARGY!" he roared and flew into Stip/Zaros, causing his energy ball to redirect at the wall, and him to come back to his senses as Stip.

"Huh... oh... hi Chrome... heh heh heh..." Stip said, trying to keep a smile on his face. And so, Stip and Chrome dueled! And, Elvarg chased Jamie around the room, like a dog chasing a cat. Elvarg shot a flame at Jamie, who rose his shield.

Seconds later, Jamie felt something hot and goopy on his hand. He opened his eyes to see where his mithril shield was seconds before, mithril 'goop'. "Uh oh..." Jamie ran away, and tripped. He landed directly underneath Chrome's hole, only to see, up in the sky, a gnome glider. And then it hit him. Not an idea, and not the glider. A shield, made of a matieriel that Jamie had never seen before. Elvarg shot another flame, and Jamie rose this shield this time. He expected to find the shield engulfed in flames, but only found a small burn mark on the shield edge, the rest of the shield completly entact. He smiled. "BRING IT!"

Part 38: The Final Battle
Jamie rose the anti-dragon-breath shield (ADBS for short) and his mithril scimitar, then charged toward the green dragon of Crandor. Stip on the other hand, was avoiding Chrome, not wanting to hurt his friend. But Chrome was in an uncontrollable rage that not even Bustergod’s inner shouts could break. Chrome desired to save Elvarg, but Stip and Jamie were trying to kill Elvarg. So, in Chrome’s book, they were to be destroyed. After killing the two, he would take out Rangerbane and Ned, followed by Ozaich, and lastly the remaining members of the Cult of the Unknown.

As Stip avoided the scaly claws and tail of Chrome, he tired out quickly because of Zaros’s possession had drained his energy, like a light bulb without electricity. Stip soon collapsed of exhaustion. “Need… cheese...” he moaned.

Jamie went straight for Elvarg’s neck, but ended up slicing through the wing of Elvarg, who had risen the wing to defend itself. Elvarg swung it’s tail around it’s body and tripped Jamie, who rolled across the room and got back to his feet. From where he was standing now, he could see Stip’s "predicament." Chrome raised his sharp claw and drove it toward the collapsed Stip’s chest. “NOOOOO!” Jamie yelled, dashing toward Stip. But was too late. The sharp claw of Chrome drove into Stip’s chest, making Jamie’s good friend become lifeless. Stip… was dead.

“NOOOOO!” Jamie yelled again, and charged at the beast who killed his friend, while the other beast in the room charged at him. Jamie aimed at the closest part of Chrome… his tail. His scimitar plunged toward it, full strength.

CLUNK! The scimmy hit the ground, as there was no tail anymore. Chrome was no longer Chrome. He was Bustergod. “Huh…” Where…what?” Bustergod said, confused. “Wait… no!” he spotted Stip’s lifeless corpse. “Chrome! He killed…he killed… Stip…”

“GRRRRRR!” a growl came from behind them. Elvarg was not finished. Using it’s tail, it sent Jamie’s ADBS flying across the cavern. It then filled it’s sharp toothed mouth with a fireball.

"No," Bustergod thought. "I’m not letting two of the people who accepted me die today! Elvarg will take me instead!" He jumped in front of Jamie just as the fireball shot through the air. Bustergod was engulfed in flame and burnt to a skeleton in an instant.

“NOOOO!” Jamie screamed yet again, enraged at the loss of two of his friends. Anger… something that he hardly ever felt. He held his scimmy in both hands and jumped into the air, and sliced Elvarg’s head clean off. The dragon of Crandor was dead. Jamie’s quest was complete. And for what? He had lost two of his friends, and he could’ve just alerted the king’s. Stupid! He thought.

“Nice battle!” Jamie turned to see, in the flesh, none other than Stip.

“But… you’re dead!” Jamie screamed, shocked.

“No… you forgot, there was TWO souls in that body.” Stip smiled. “Zaros… the old god… gave his invincibility to me, and that crushed him because his age… and then after that, after I was saved, the invincibility faded because it was not meant for mortals.”

“OK…” Jamie said, glad to have his friend back. “Bustergod is dead… same with Elvarg. Bustergod is over there, that skeleton. Come on, let’s go to Rangerbane and Ned, I found a secret passage to Karjama we can take…” They exited the now unlocked gate, and headed for the surface. When the sun set that day, another skeleton existed within Elvarg’s chamber.

Part 39: A Song of Bravery and Stupidity
When Jamie and Stip arrived back on the beach of the inferno of death that is Crandor, they informed Ned and Rangerbane of what had happened in the chamber of Elvarg. They didn’t believe it.

After returning to Karamja via secret passage, they worked a shift at Luthas’s Banana Emporium to earn the 30gp required to leave the island (each). After talking to the Custom’s Officer, who said they need 60gp each (You know, taxes), they worked another shift.

When they arrived in Port Sarim, the four of them (Jamie, Stip, Rangerbane, Ned) ran into a fellow who called himself Tahu1000. “Hey! Is that an Anti-Dragon-Breath Shield?” Tahu said. This time, he wore a purple amulet; an amulet of glory. Jamie nodded. “Then it was you who he wanted to save!”

“Save? Us? Who?” Jamie said.

“He didn’t tell me his name, but he had a poison dragon dagger and seemed urgent to get away by nightfall.” Tahu explained. “He told me to drop an ADBS down a hole that was shaped like a dragon, yet a person, on top of Crandor Island, via Gnome Glider.”

“So Bustergod told you to save us... well you saved our lives so feel free to tag along with us!” Stip said, while secretly scanning Tahu for any cheese. The group all introduced themselves, and continued en route for Falador, the Home of the White Knights. When they arrived at the castle, they searched for the head knight, who was not in. So they took off for Varrock, with a handy Varrock Teleport. King Roald was in, and they told him their story, from the Champion’s Guild, to Crandor Island.

“Wow! What a story? You guys are heroes... but why didn’t you tell us this earlier?” The King asked.

“Umm...” Jamie said.

“Never the mind. A ceremony will take place in the square, noon sharp!”

--AT NOON--

People, strong and weak alike, were in the once glorious square of Varrock, not minding the burnt buildings that ringed it. A stand was set up, and Jamie, Stip, Rangerbane, Tahu, and Ned stood on it, along with King Roald and a famous singer and writer, named: Name Withheld from Story.

NWFS cleared his throat and began a song he had written. It was titled, A Song of Bravery and Stupidity.

“This, is the tale of Sir Jamie, Sir Stip, The Dragon Elvarg, and the Were-Dragon Chrome!”

Brave, Brave, Brave, Sir Jamie!
He went by himself, to the cave
Where the dragon Elvarg laid
Oh, Brave, Brave, Brave,
Sir Jamie!

The dragon charged at the man,
Who swiftly turned his tail and ran,
Oh, Brave, Brave, Brave,
Sir Jamie!

Sir Stip came on, running in
And attacked the dragon who had sinned,
Oh, Brave, Brave, Brave,
Sir Stip!

He bravely fought the dragon,
Until came the Were-Dragon
Oh, that menacing,
Chrome!

Chrome and Stip dueled.
While over Jamie Elvarg ruled,
Oh, Brave, Brave, Brave,
Sir Jamie!

The dragon reared it’s ugly head,
And Jamie turned his tail and fled,
Oh, Brave, Brave, Brave,
Sir Jamie!

The moral of the story is,
It really is that is,
You can do whatever you want to do,
Just go and do whatever you want to do!
Oh, Brave, Brave, Brave,
Sir Jamie and Stip!

“How can they call that guy famous for writing and singing?” Stip whispered to Jamie.

“I don’t know, but I have business to attend to. Bye! Keep in touch.” Jamie said. He ran North... toward Edgeville. He had a prize to claim.

Part 40: The Secret of Oziach
CREEEAAAK! The door to Oziach’s hut creaked open slowly, revealing the seemingly empty, single room. “'Ho goes der?” Ozaich said from seemingly nowhere.

“Me! Oziach, it’s me Jamie.” Jamie said. “I’ve killed Elvarg for you.”

“WWHHHAT?!?” Oziach shrieked. “But... But... You... no! That’s it! Time to die! DIVISIPATE!” Someone appeared in front of Jamie. But it wasn’t Ozaich. It was Strangerr.

“No! Impossible! But the Cult...”

“...Burned me? Ha!” Strangerr snickered. “No, they didn’t... you really believed that? Little do you realize, when you were unconscious, we put one of our mind-control devices on you and for fun, found out what you were doing. When we found you were going to Oziach, we devised a plan. First we would kidnap Oziach. Then I impersonated him, and told you to fight Elvarg.”

“But why?” Jamie said, confused.

“Elvarg was hungry, and we were certain you would be good enough to fill him up. But that Stip ruined everything!”

“How?”

“You combined with his power could easily defeat Elvarg. So we took control of Rangerbane to take out both of you! But Stip blew that out of the water too, finding out the weakness of out system.” Strangerr explained. “So, we had a back up plan, that trio. But everyone interfered with that as well. Especially that Were-Dragon. He nearly wiped out the whole Cult!”

“HE DID!?!?!!?” Jamie was shocked.

“Yes. And now, for killing Elvarg, you shall fall! Let’s match the power of Strangerr, Cult of the Unknown member, against the not-so-famous Jamie.” Stranger pulled out a dragon battle-axe. Jamie gulped, and pulled out his mithril scimmy. Strangerr went for Jamie’s chest, but Jamie rolled around Strangerr and went to slash his back, but Strangerr back flipped over Jamie and was about to plunge his sword through Jamie’s back when...

“Stop! In the name of cheese!” At the doorway was none other than Stip. “Air Blast!” A white energy ball headed for Strangerr, who back flipped again, freeing Jamie from this dangerous position. Stip put away his staff and pulled out his halberd.

“Phh!” Strangerr snorted. “I have much more skill than the both of you combined.”

“What about all three of us?” At the window was Rangerbane, bow loaded, climbing in.

“Add me to that equation!” came another voice from the other window. It was Tahu.

“You haven’t seen the last of me!” Strangerr yelled before the group could attack. He whispered something no one could hear, and disappeared in a purple flash.

Epilogue
After Strangerr’s disappearance, everyone planned what to do next. Jamie urged to find Strangerr and finish off the Cult of the Unknown. Tahu and Rangerbane wanted to come with him. Stip believed that Zaros’s spirit was still out there, and he was going to hunt him down, and return him to his rightful place: Inside the Zaros Amulet. “I guess this is where we part.” Stip said.

“Ya, I guess so.” Jamie replied.

“Perhaps our paths shall cross. I had fun. Good-Bye.” Stip turned and left.

But behind them, hidden in the shadows was someone who did not care one bit about this heart-warming occasion. He grinned with a smile that would haunt a man to his dying day. His name was Strangerr. “I told you... you haven’t seen the last of me...” he whispered to himself. “Oh look... time to feed Twinteeth...” he said, and turned around and walked into the shadows.
