Break in the NHL lockout

It's been awhile since we've seen the gladiators on the ice. The National Hockey League and the Player's union have been in a lockout for over a season. The lockout which people we're expecting since the threats of a lockout for the past few seasons now.

A press release on the 13th of July promises change to all of that. Both sides of the lockout meet Tuesday and continued Wednesday to hammer out the fine details of their agreement. The players have been fighting for longer contracts and higher payments. These "lockout" problems have caused other sports hell as well... Such as the 1994 season of NLB where the entire season, including the world series was canceled due to a player lockout. The NHL is one of the many sports that do not have a "cap" on the salary of it's players.

The deal is suppose to be finished some time next week. The NHL has been the source of many jokes since the entire issue has happened. Even with the holdout, EA Sports plans on releasing a NHL 2006 game.

The deal still needs to be ratified but still this new release gives hope to all NHL fans and players of the game. The players union and NHL state that the undisclosed agreement is a "joint news release."
