That's right! It's that time of year again; or should I say it's that START of the year again! The starting of a new year brings the promise of great new opportunities, and we all know what a great opportunity the Upcoming Fakers competitions are!

For those of you who were here this time last year, the Upcoming Fakers of '06 Competition had a great turnout. With nearly 20 entries from Villagers and some amazing fakes, I'm glad to say that last year's 6m in prizes went out to some great fakemakers! Who were our winners last year? Well, here's a reminder!

Yes, last year was a tough choice indeed, but these three proved to be the best of the newbie fakers! :coke:

So, onto THIS year's competition! As you may have noticed, I'm not the sole host of the competition this year. My good friend Rab has decided to leave RuneScape, and decided to put his gold towards the competition. Of course I put in a good share of gold as well, so with a good 28.5m in prizes, we hope that you'll all enjoy the competition!

The Rules:
Yes, there are rules. I know, boring! Just make sure you read through them. :wink:

1.) No winners of the Best Fake of '05 Comp. or the Upcoming Fakers of '06 Comp. may participate.
(This rule basically means that Boa1891, Andrey, Agent Orange, xxpk, svstoned and myself may not participate in the competition. It is a competition for upcoming fakers after all.)

2.) You may only enter once and only once! (You are allowed to have multiple fakes in a single entry if it's to carry on an event or something of the sort, but you cannot have two entries with separate themes.)

3.) You must have a join date no later than Dec. 27, 2006, and at least 100 posts to enter. (This is to avoid the chance of anyone creating multiple accounts in order to enter more than one fake. See rule 2.)

4.) Anything you enter must be your work and only your work! (There will be no 'collab' entries where two or more people enter one fake, and you may not edit someone else's fake and call it your own.)

5.) If you entered the Upcoming Fakers of '06 Competition, you may not enter the same fake that you entered last year! This does not mean that you cannot enter a fake that you made before the competition, it just means that if you entered a fake in last year's competition you may not enter the same fake again this year.

6.) You may only enter one category, so please don't try to say that you'd like to enter both, because I'll have to void your entry for not reading through the rules.

We've recently had some fakes entered into the competition that the entrants did not make themselves. This is just a note to remind you all that stealing other people's work is not only against the rules of this competition, but against the rules of RuneVillage, and the appropriate punishments will be distributed to those who think they're above the rules.

I just can't simply allow you another chance, especially when so many people are putting hours of work into their entries in hopes to win, and you show so little respect for their hard work by entering a fake that you didn't make.

Basically, you're not welcome to enter this competition, or any competitions I may hold in the future. If you wanted to win, cheating was not the way to go about it, and now you've lost any chance at winning any future competitions I may hold. Hopefully this will sink through enough so that you don't try to pull a stunt like this again in the future, and possibly find yourself in a much worse situation.

If you try to cheat in this competition, you will not be allowed in any future competitions I may hold, and the appropriate actions will be taken against your account.

If you've read all these rules then please post "Thank You for the 500k donation to the prize money, Lisa!" as verification. By doing this, you will recieve a number for the raffles that Rab and I will be holding throughout the time this competition will be going for. This does not apply to Lisa because she pwns, and automatically receives a number for being so generous. ^_^

Competition Categories:
This year will have three separate categories.

Realism:
This is where true faking talent will shine. This category doesn't focus on originality or humor, but simply the overall look of the fake. This is the category you'll want to enter if your fake seems totally real, like it really exists inside the game.

What will get you a good scoring in this category is by managing to make drastic changes to the screenshot without having anything look out of place.

Entertainment:
If you're entering this category, the object will be to strike the judge's funny bone, grab the judge's attention, or anything that falls into the definition of entertaining someone. This category doesn't focus so much on the realism of the fake, but rather how much the fake entertains the viewer.

For this category, there are many different ways of scoring points, but they all amount to a single goal; entertainment! Tell a story, create a fake quest, do something funny; whatever you think will be more entertaining than everyone else's fakes!

Creativity:
This category is the only one you don't actually enter. To win in this category, come up with a fake that's totally new; something original and fantastic. An amazing fake of full Dragon could win in the realism catagory, but score little points when it comes to creativity.

Though you're only allowed to enter either the realism category or the humor category, all fakes will be judged for this category. If you're going for realism - Be CREATIVE! If you're entering for entertainment - Be CREATIVE!

Notes on Entry: Any sort of comments you'd like us to know about your fake.

All entries are to be in by April 7th. There is no exact time, but I'm trusting you all to get them in no later than April 7th.

The Raffles!

Yes, that's right, we will be hosting a few raffles while you all are busy working on your fakes!

Starting Jan. 23st (my birthday), Rab and I will be holding raffles for 500k! How do you enter? Well, you should know by now. 8-[

There will be a total of five raffles. The winners of each raffle will be announced on the following dates:

January 23rd

February 3rd

February 10th

February 17th

February 24th

There will also be a special raffle held for 2.5m, with the winner to be announced on April 14th. To enter this raffle, you must simply enter a fake into the competition.
(Past winners who want to enter this raffle are free to do so if they make a fake and submit it to me. Though they will not be able to participate in the competition itself, they're free to participate in the raffle.)

Notes on Entry: Well, I was going to add another one, to show how it all turned out, but I got lazy, I suppose this could serve as a teaser for whoever doesn't watch Naruto to go find out. (NARUTO SHIPPUDEN ). Anyways only a true Naruto fan will find all the gimmicks I've hidden (try to find them all :O). Be sure to check out all the parts of the fake, I've tried to change everything to be Naruto related to the best of my ability. I know everything isn't EXACTLY the same as the episode that this is shown, but whatever. Anyways enjoy and I hope there will be more Naruto converts that will possibly fill up the Anime Shrine usergroup (check it out).

Yes, well, Rab and I will pick judges who we know will rate fairly. I'd just like to keep the names of the judges hush-hush for now so that we don't have anyone trying to boost their score in an.. unfair way.

I'm hoping to see some great fakes this year. With the release of the Fake Archive I was hoping that some people would try the art of fakemaking, and from viewing the Gen Pics boards I've seen quite a little uprising of fakes.

The thing about fakes is that they take a while to do, and for a competition as large as this I'd like to see many entries.

That information can be found under the "Entering the Competition" section. All entries are to be in no later than Febuary 25th. :wink:

Glad to see that we already have a couple of entries! And they look great, I must say.

Now be sure to keep in mind that entries will work the same as they did last year; you're free to improve and re-submit your entry as much as you want until the cut-off date. :wink:

I'll update the first post with an entries section in a bit now that we actually have a couple, but for now I have to get ready for tonight. It's my girlfriend's birthday party. (Which somewhat answers your question, haunter. I've just become way too busy in life to have time for RuneScape. ^_^;

Well considering all posts in this thread, no matter what I say the rules are, must follow the RV rules of which must follow the RS rules. That right there is enough to get the rule of 'No Private Servers!' across. :wink:
