Quote:
It seems that Surok has made a cunning escape from his Varrock Library prison and is intent on continuing his nefarious schemes. He even found time to steal some ancient tomes from the library, unearthing dark secrets and powerful magicks.

It is clear that Surok has plans to control the city of Varrock and it is up to you to stop him! Scuppering Surok may not be as easy as it sounds, however, as he has friends in very, very high places.

Surok was last seen heading east out of Varrock, towards the Chaos Tunnels that were introduced in January.

Have a care when entering the Tunnels, as they are dark and full of creatures - including dragons - that will attack without mercy! Be sure to only take what you are prepared to lose, for there are worse things than simple orks in the dark places of this world.

Summary

Where to start Chaos Tunnels: The Hunt for Surok
Start by speaking to Surok by the statue of Saradomin, east of Varrock

Requirements to complete Chaos Tunnels: The Hunt for Surok:
What Lies Below
Level 44 Slayer
A hefty Combat level would be helpful.

Access to:

A new boss fight in the Chaos Tunnels which can be repeated daily
A hefty chunk of Slayer XP and guaranteed Summoning charms for those who defeat him!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other news...

As a result of recent feedback, players can now take priest robes and gowns into Bounty Hunter. These items offer small Prayer bonuses that players might wish to make use of.

We've fixed an issue with the Assist System, so that runecrafters will be able to get 'double' runes if the assister has the necessary Runecrafting level.

The Friends and Ignore interfaces have been looked at and adjusted to make them more readable. These were slightly darker than intended.

We've been looking at a few smaller changes that will enhance your gameplay and you can expect more of these in the future:

When reopening the Smithing interface, it will remember where you last scrolled to, similar to the bank interface.
Romeo in Varrock will no longer interrupt you if you're passing through. You can still stop by, have a chat and see if you can cheer him up!

I got the same amount of Charms, yes. Although the coins seem to vary. There might be other drops as well.

Short guide:

1. Gear up. I suggest dragonhide, antifire shield, facemask, super set, whip and DDS.
2. Confront Surok northeast of Varrock, by the Saramodin Statue.
3. Follow him into the hole in the statue.
4. Use the portal he used to escape to Chaos Tunnels, which is near the end.
5. Use the portals to get to the room with Dagganoths, which is the most northwestern room. You will know that you're on the right track if you see a cutscene now and then.
6. Use the most western portal in the room with Dagganoths.
7. Battle. Melee prayer all the time. Don't attack the little guys.
8. WIN!

Just completed it, it was quite annoying because there was a guy ranging Mummies with Chinchompas right next to the portal I was supposed to enter. It took me a good 15 minutes of running back and forth to notice that there was a portal hidden between all those Mummies. The fight was surprisingly easy, I barely ate any Sharks. I don't really think it's worth to do it every day just for the XP.

I just went back to kill him for the 2nd time. Same kind of fight as before. I decided to kill a couple orcs they dropped for me gold charms so don't seem to be worth a whole lot of effort to kill. Boork dropped this time
7 crimson 5 blue 2 green charms 7.9k coins and same 3 gems
Sadly I only got 250 exp in slayer for killing him and that was very disappointing.
If it wasn't for the blue and crimson charms and the relatively short time and resources it takes to kill him I wouldn't bother and may not bother even for the charms. The jadevine is easier and faster to get to for the slayer exp and I really did expect that surok mini game would be along the same lines for slayer exp. I guess hefty exp to jagex is 250 exp.......

Thanks Sky for the new map it helped alot, when you go again, do you have to go thru the whole map like before or can you use one of the rift entrances?

You can just go right thru the rift (gargoyles is the closest rift) and to the last portal to him in room 1. No need to follow him thru like when u first do the mini quest

Apparently, you only get 350 slayer exp after the first kill.

Lame. :(

EDIT: Lol, didn't see Quark's post.

Oh well, we'll get free blue charms. :D

You get about 2.5k summoning exp in charms instead of 2.5k slayer.

I'll stick to the vine i think, i haven't done the quest but it seems too much trouble for 250 exp.

I got 350 xp the second time around but the same 2 green, 7 red 5 blue charms. Not worth it to go there every day and collect but if I am going into the tunnels to do a slayer assignment in the area, it is worth taking a side trip to get the charms.

This seems like it will be another one of those things on my list (added to attending to my kingdom daily) :)

Although...how long does it take? Like is it worth it?
