We've gone over 8 years without that button, we'll be fine for at least another 16 months

Very nice, btw while we're talking about Skype... Is there a limit for how many people you can have in a conference call?

A thought a normal call had a cap of 8. :?:
I remember Tim (Knux) bringing up something like a Skypecast that had a larger limit, but I forget how to get to it.

I remember back in the days we used to hit the limit all the time, which was indeed something like 8 people, but I think it changed quite a while ago

Skype calls can now go as high as ten. The reason for the limit is that a normal computer can't typically serve as host for more than that without there being a lot of lag. For this reason, Skype began Skypecast. Skypecast is a free way to set up a temporary server for your own conversations that need to be larger than 10 people. Skypecast time must be scheduled ahead of time and the server will open, then close at the allotted times. A free skypecast server can host 25 people. You need to pay if you want to host more.

The benefit of skypecast is also that any of the 25 people can listen, but the host has to allow or disallow people to talk. For things like guild-wide raids and whatnot, this helps to clear up confusion by only allowing certain people to give direction through voice chat. In the event of a type of podcast, this makes it so that the host can have certain people almost "call in" to give their two cents or for whatever reason they wanted to talk.

Umm. That's basically it. In my personal experience, any more than 3 people talking gets too confusing for clear and concise conversation. Like my grandfather says: There is a reason you have two ears and only one mouth; to listen twice as much as you speak. This is especially true for any sort of VOIP conversation.
