Part 35: Sinking Ship
“There’s a crack in the wall.” Sarkus mumbled. “Since, for some reason, my teleport spells aren’t working, maybe that’s our ticket out.

“Damn… dwarves…” a voice could be faintly heard.

“Who’s that?” wondered Rangerbane aloud.

“They may have won the battle… they may be winning the war… But they would’ve never survived without those White Knights.”

“A Black Knight…” Jamie answered, weakly.

“But as long as I stand… this fortress will NOT fall. Charge, second wave!”

“Now that can’t…urk…be good.” said Sarkus, wincing with some kind of pain halfway through his sentence.

Suddenly, loud rumbles could be heard. “AGAINST THE WALL!” shouted Rangerbane, and the three hit the wall, before a large slab of land began to crack off. Bits of rock flew randomly in the air like pellets, and then, the slab cracked off completely and fell into the pit. This left the trio with a two foot wide crescent-shaped pathway, with a four foot wide steep incline which would be impossible to stand on.

“There’s no way we’re getting out, is there?” Jamie said.

Suddenly, Rangerbane and Sarkus darted to the sides. “MOVE!” they shouted, but it was too late, and then, the wall exploded, and Jamie was sent flying. He slammed against the incline on his way down, breaking his arm, and then he fell towards the pit, and was only able to grab on with his remaining arm.

Through the smoke and dust of the explosion, a hand reached. Rangerbane. “Grab on!” he shouted. Jamie forced his broken arm upwards, and grabbed Rangerbane’s hand, who then pulled.

Jamie shouted with pain, but Rangerbane ignored it. As the dust cleared, one could see Ranger leaning down the incline, with Sarkus holding his ankles.

Then, the incline cracked in two and began to slide off. Sarkus jumped to the ground so as to hold on, but the gap increased and the strain was too much, and he fell.

For what seemed like an eternity, time seemed to freeze, the three falling in slow motion, chained together.

Pain and sorrow shone in their eyes. The lava below beckoned them, offering to lead them to the grave. And then… time stopped standing still, and they fell.

When Tiffy suddenly grabbed Sarkus’ ankles, abruptly stopping the three’s descent. ”Hold on!” he shouted. The rock incline finally broke loose, leaving all that remained of the room the single crescent-shaped pathway, attached to the newly dug tunnel. Another White Knight grabbed Tiffy, and another White Knight held onto that White Knight’s shoulders, and so on, and so forth. Together they fought the force of gravity, and then, pulled. They pulled mightily, and pulled them all from the brink of despair.

Now, Jamie, Sarkus, Rangerbane, and Tiffy were all collapsed on the ground around, gasping for breath. Jamie spoke. “How… did… you… find… us…?” he puffed out.
Tiffy stood and brushed the dirt off his shining armour. “Chance, nearly. You weren’t among the dead, so we assumed that you must’ve been captured by the Black Knights. The dwarves know EVERY tunnel in this mountain, yes, you are underneath Ice Mountain. They knew of this tunnel, because their ancestors built it back in the days of the God Wars, as a fortress of sorts on the edge of where many of the battles took place. They had noticed signs in the mines that there was disruption to the mountain going on in this general area, so they took us to the nearest tunnel and… bombed the whole place out. You know the rest.”

“So… is the war…” Rangerbane began to ask.

“Over? Yes.” said Tiffy. “Those Black Knights only had one pitiful wave fighting the dwarves when we got here. A few got away, back to the fortress, but they can’t win by themselves, and there’s no way that any MORE Black Knight’s could’ve been in that tiny fortress. We left a small group on top, just in case though.”

“Tiffy… I’d expect smarter thinking from you, especially.” Sarkus said.

Tiffy looked puzzled.

“That group, up top. They’re already dead. We heard a Black Knight ‘Survivor’ talking, and order a second wave to charge.”

Tiffy had a shocked look on his face. “What?!?” He looked down for a moment and looked up. “I’m a fool. An old fool. It seems my age has diminished my reasoning, and it may be my fault that a few dozen men have died for no cause.” He stomped his foot. “How could I be so blind…”

A dwarven miner suddenly ran up. “Sir Tiffy, the Black Knights have infiltrated the mine.”

“This mine leads right up to Falador…” a White Knight said in realization.

“Sir Tiffy, those deaths were not your fault, but the fault of the Black Knights. All we ask of you now is to help us stop them.” Sarkus said.

“Yes… You lot.” he said to the White Knights. “Go, stop them!” Tiffy said. There was a large hint of worry in his voice as the dozens of White Knight stampeded off.

The dwarf, along with Jamie, Rangerbane, and Sarkus followed them, leaving Tiffy alone.

“I’m a fool.” he said finally.

Part 34: Fools of Power

As a famous historian once wrote, ‘Power, is responsibility. However nearly everyone who has it is a fool, and are doomed to be destroyed by it. As my research shows-’

-------------------------------------------

“Arymadyl, protect us!” said Sarkus, and a shield formed around them, stopping the sudden fire blast that Tahu had fired. “Thank you.” he muttered, before he thrust his hand forward, firing an Arymadyl’s Love spell at Tahu.

In what seemed like but a split second, Tahu stepped to the side and drew his sword, slicing through the blast as it passed him. The two parts crashed against the wall, causing a loud bang. “Idiot. My power is approaching divine. It is almost like my mind is spiritually linked to the rune essence implanted in me… and this rune… it has near limitless power. Now, grant me speed!” roared Tahu, as his knuckles glowed bright, and he dashed forwards, swiping his rune scimitar, which Jamie barely managed to block.

“You…” started Jamie, but he realized there was no time for arguing, as Tahu thrust him to the side with a powerful side kick. Sarkus rose the mighty staff of Arymadyl, barely blocking the rapid sword strikes. Suddenly, Sarkus lost balance and his grip on his staff nearly failed, causing him to expose his face. The scimitar rose for the final blow…

-------------------------------------------

‘-they tend to underestimate those without power.’

-------------------------------------------

And the scimitar seemingly bounced off thin air, but the answer to this sudden occurrence was solved when one could see an arrow embedded in the rocks that acted as walls, and the ranger in the doorway that had let it loose from his newly acquired yew short bow that a Black Knight Ranger had been holding only minutes before.

“Rangerbane. You’ve improved.” said Tahu, before turning and firing at lightning bolt at Rangerbane. The ranger dived, when it finally could be seen the bolt crashing into the earth above the doorway. With a quick and loud crash, the only exit was covered. “However, now I have all three of you where I want.”

Sarkus struck quick with his staff, and hit the side of Tahu, which was still exposed, as he had not replaced his destroyed rune armour. Tahu stumbled to the side, and Jamie swung upwards. It was a sure win… when, still imbued with speed, Tahu dodged the blade, and held his hand to Jamie’s face. Everything seemed still for a second… and Jamie was sent flying into a wall.

“You will ALL die here!” shouted Tahu. He felt like he could not control himself. He needed… to destroy… Tahu shouted loudly, and clasped his hands together, his feet firmly on the ground. He began to harness the very power of the earth around them.

--------------------------------------------------------
“Or even destroy themselves.”
--------------------------------------------------------

And then… an inferno surrounded all them. Jamie shouted into the air in pain. Flames surged and swung and blinded all. The intensity was unimaginable, indescribable, and despite only occurring for several seconds, seemed to go on for an eternity.

And then, there was a loud shattering noise, and it was over. “No… what have I done…” Tahu said.

Jamie opened his eyes, and forced them to stay open. The pain…

There stood Tahu, bloody, his hands covered in blood, and white, glowing shards of rune essence imbedded in his face, including one in his right eye. His hand was clasped over his eye. “Why did I…”

The ground around them, drained of its energy for that attack, was unsteady, and bits began to slowly crumble off and fall into the lava pit below.

Sarkus and Rangerbane stood. Jamie could see they had bad burns and were covered in scorch marks and blood. He guessed he was in a similar state.

“I can’t go on…” Tahu kept mumbling.

Sarkus spoke through his pain. “We can… make things right. We can go back and-”

“No, I can’t go back.” At that moment, Tahu reached over to Sarkus, and ripped a patch off his robes. He turned the fabric over, revealing the Time Rune Talisman.

“What are you doing!??” shouted Rangerbane.

Tahu turned, and tossed the Time Talisman into the lava pit. “Don’t come back for me.” were his last words before he followed suit, and lunged himself to his death.

“TAHU!” shouted Jamie, running forward and leaning over the edge, holding his hand out as if to catch Tahu. But it was too late.

Jamie turned to Sarkus. “Go back, stop this!” he shouted.

Sarkus looked down. “I don’t have anymore Time Runes. And Tahu just destroyed the talisman.”

“No… This can’t be…”

Rangerbane looked Jamie in the eye. “We NEED to get out of here, somehow!”

Suddenly, a loud crash could be heard. The three looked to the side, and saw there was A LOT less land to stand on, and a large chunk had just crumbled off and melted in the pit. The three glanced around in shock, but there was no exit. In a figure of speech, they were trapped on a sinking ship.

OOC: Sorry Tahu. You've just been kicked off the island.... in a manner of speaking.

Part 33: How it Ends
“Welcome.” The light faded, and sound returned. Magma could be seen flowing into a massive pit, but that was about all that was visible, the light still burnt into Jamie‘s retinas. “To Hell.”

A fist in Jamie’s gut brought the sense of touch back. He flew across the area, the dirt that ended up in his mouth when he landed brought back taste. Everything stung his nostrils. Was something… burning? Jamie felt his hair tugged on, and something pulled him up, and threw him against the wall. His sight was beginning to return. Whoever was attacking him was definitely a person. He reached for his mithril scimitar, but was interrupted by what felt like something plowing into him and spinning on the impact point. He said to himself ‘Ah. My pain receptors woke up. Ouch.’

---------------------

Dwarves and Black Knights fighting? “Kill the fools!” shouted one of the soldier leading the knights. “Mountain Oracle, watch over us! We will liberate you of the evil ones!” shouted a Dwarf, who had just imbedded his hammer in the skull of a knight.

Rangerbane quickly knew which side to choose, and loaded an arrow onto his string. Steady… Swoosh! Hit the mark right on, and the Black Knight clobbered to the ground. The battle had spread around the whole mountain base, and Rangerbane continued on, working his way toward the fortress, picking off any nearby Black Knights.

---------------------

“Is this how it ends then, Tahu?” said Jamie, his vision blurry no longer. He sat, bloodied and weak against the wall of this underground chamber. Sarkus lay on the ground several feet away, still unconscious. More pain. “Tahu, stop it, and talk to me. What the hell happened to you?”

“You really want to know? Power, and corruption. They gave me power, and I outburst against them. So, they corrupted me. I don’t know how they did it, but I fell unconscious and woke up, different inside. That made me abuse my power, and power breeds corruption, and now… I’m not myself anymore. But I see a new path. With Timebender, I can reverse what they have done to me! And you…” Tahu’s eyes glowed white at this point. “These eyes that Valacious had… they had more powers than he told me. I can see, that you and three others know the location of it. So, I want you to tell me…” His eyes glowed fiercer than before. “Where it is?!”

“Look into yourself. Even I can see that you like the power. You like what you are doing with it. You wouldn’t save yourself with Timebender. It would just be an addition to your collection of destruction!” shouted Sarkus, who had gotten up while Tahu had been speaking, and quickly fired an Arymadyl’s Love spell at Tahu, blasting him to the side.

“Fine. So be it.” said Tahu, shaking the blow off, and standing up. He snapped his fingers, and the lava pit far below began to shake. “If I can not get you to tell me, I will kill you, reach into your mind and find out!” His hands began to glow with fire. “Jamie, Sarkus, DIE!”

And the end began.

-----------------------

“Vyvin, you died a warrior’s death. The death of a White Knight. There would be no more of an honorable death.” said Tiffy.

“What does this mean for the knights?” asked one in the crowd.

“We’ve lost our leader and one of our best!”

“The Black Knights will just attack again, and we will be the ones to lose!”

Tiffy chuckled as he looked into the distance. “Don’t be too quick to judge. For today may be the day of our victory!” he shouted, seeing the dwarven messenger in the distance. He already knew what his message was. “Send for the clerics to treat the wounded. As for the rest of us… We fight to the end! To Ice Mountain, now!”

The white knights charged past Sir Tiffy, who believed he had the strength in him for a battle at his own age. “We fight to the end.” he repeated, as the army continued to charge past him.
